Yeah, crab spider. The male widows still have the same body as the females, just smaller and sometimes brown or light black/gray (not the shiny deep black of the female), legs are typically striped. They can have an hourglass too, but not red (orange).

My house was not quite infested. but had a big widow problem when we moved in. Spent lots of time researching them.

The other good news is there is not a spray that will (legally) treat them unless you spray them directly. Often that will just stun them too, long enough to smash them. Spray will deter them, but won't kill them. So the best way to get rid of them is destroy their webs when you find them, and go Widow hunting at dawn to kill them. You'll probably never get rid of them, but you can keeo them at bay by taking doing a few simple things.

I have a buddy that lost alot of tissue on his lower back by a recluse. He was cutting grass, brushed up against a dogwood tree limb and it bit him. He said what sucked was that he didn't feel the bite, he only noticed it the next morning when his flesh was rotting. My question is...Why the hell is something so damn small so damn poisionous? It's not like they feed on cape buffalo or anything! Can't fn stand em!

That was exactly what happened to me, i got bit when i was walking outside without shoes on and i guess it bit me when i was walking in my backyard i didn't feel the bite till the next morning. I woke up to walk to my bathroom feeling my foot was feeling asleep so i looked down and it was completely black on top. It left a little hole on top of my foot for scaring. Ive been bit by a snake before but this thing did WAY more damage. I agree with you how can a little thing be so destructive? That little spider pioson is very potent, but yet a size of a quarter it's crazy!

brake cleaner and engine degreaser works awesome.

After moving to cali from ny was a bit of a shock. after finishing un-packing i had some additional stuff in my garage to unpack. i went out after dark, big mistake. Ive always been afraid of spiders but there is a whole new twist of paranoia when they can fuck you up so bad or even kill your ass...

anyway there must have been a nest in my garage because there was seriously 15 widows in and around my garage... i had no killing spray but brake cleaner handy. they seriously get f'd up by brake cleaner...

got spider spray now and it doesnt work... only downside is brake cleaner takes the paint off the wall...

Yeah, thats what I meant by legal (or safe as a spray), I have several cans of stuff in my garage that work really well too, I think I used break cleaner at one point too. The best stuff is Diazinon, however it was ruled illegal in 2004. If you can find it, it works.
