here is what metra says to do.. dont mount the brackets back to the truck until you have pushed the dash kit in and its flush. in other words.. just get the 4 bolts started.. then push the install kit into the dash then slowly tighten the 4 bolts until tight.. this is what i had to do with mine cuz i was having the same issue.

tuck the wires down in the back further so that there isnt as much pressure pushing the bracket out

Wow, thanks guys. Everything is great. DVD works while driving. The faceplate is fixed. I was right , I had to use the plastic brackets so I could get the radio futher back. Toyota should be ashamed that they put such a weak ass stereo in the Tacoma. My speaker fucking sound like I never had speakers in the truck before. Night and day. I was gonna up grade them , maybe even get a small sub. Saved money. I totally happy with the sound and bass produced by the stock speakers. But I may wine up blowing them if I'm not careful. I will take some pix later and see if I can figure out how to get them on the thread. Again thanks everyone. No I can have the windows down and hear the music too

your stock speakers can sound amazing, what you want to do is get a sub then set the low pass filter on the sub around 100 hz and then use a high pass filter that is built into the deck to stop bass from going to the speakers and set that cut off at about 100 hz as well. this way the sub will be putting out the bass and not the speakers. You can crank it as loud as you want and never blow your stock speakers.

Yeah, I'll take some pictures. I love the radio, but I would suggest an upgrade on the stock speakers. They dont do the radio justice.
