So I just put the fat bobs lift on my 2010 access cab. I am loving the lift so far but need to get bigger tires to have it look right imo. I'm thinking that 31's are going to really make me want to regear or at least bring some low end torque back with the lce header. If anyone has input on regearing or the lce header that would be great!!??!! I have an auto with what I believe to be 3.42 gears now. I think...... Door code is A01A. Not too good with all this!

The best headers on the market will not get you what you are looking for. Yes they will add a little bit back, but not close to what you will have lost from the larger tire sizes. Your best bet is regearing or putting a turbo/supercharger on the engine.

Nope, thats one area where i havent messed with. I have ridden in vehicles that have been regeared, and when done right the results are quite impressive.

I am running with the lift and 31" tires, and regearing was a must for me because I tow. The automatics are 3.58 so I regeared to 4.10. While I was at it, I installed a Detroit Truetrac and I absolutely love it. When you do tires, I recommend the lighter C rated tires unless you need more. I would love to install the LCE header, but I don't know how much farther I am going with this truck.

What's the approximate cost to regear to 4.10?

Reading on this forum the best mod you can do to 2.7 besides supercharger is the header. I plan to do it, I'm also about to go up from 4.10 to 4.56 gears

Gah damn.... Is the change from 3.58 to 4.10 that noticeable? Is it worth it?

Thats prety cheap compared to other options. Also with a change like that it will literally feel like your truck just gained 25% more power.

I would get rid of the open diff too since you're in there. Throw a Truetrac in there. I had a Truetrac installed for $600. The carrier was $469 on JEGS. I just ordered new Gears and an install kit for $500

You will notice a difference between 3.58 and 4.10, especially if you have 31s

About $1100 for the gears, rebuild kit, and labor. Truetrac was another $460. It was well worth it for me. Even without towing the camper, it felt like you were dragging a dang anchor.
That's a significant change in gearing, so very noticeable. It almost felt like you were starting in 2nd but it's back normal now. That's what the tire size calculator came up with too.

That's a lot of gear for 31s. However you will get out of the hole quick. I guess you know you will loose highway mpgs though.

The 2.7 auto came factory with 4.56. Mine came with small tires from the factory so I have 4.10. Gear calculator puts my rpm at 2600ish at 70mph. It's like a 300 rpm increase.

Trust me, the 2.7 needs the help. Coming from a 3.4 Prerunner to a 2.7 4wd is like going from a racecar to a bus

I see now you have a gen 1. My bad. I don't know much at all about them. You've got it covered.

The 2.7 isn't horrible, it's just the torque curve is a lot higher in the rpm range. Just to decently accelerate from a red light I have to be between 2-2500k whereas I could be 1750-2000 to get the same acceleration.

@TownvilleTim how long have you had 4.10 gears in? Any issues at all?
