Most likely. You know what they say - you get what you pay for.

No add-a-circuits for sale at Advance Auto Parts for low profile fuses. Don't waste your time like I did.

    Hey guys!

I'm going to install fog lights on my sr.. I have almost everything figured out but I'm a little bit doubtful..

Mi switch have the following cables:

    1. Ground
    2. Fog lights harnes
    3. To connect to ignition
    4. To connect to dash lights for backlight led sign "fog light" to be on when dash lights are on.

Do you know exactly to wich fuse under the dash do I have to connect cables 3 and 4????

    Thanks in advance!!!

I would like to know this for when I install my ARB dual compressor. It says to connect to an ignition wire and to an illumination wire. Also what do you use to connect to the fuse box?

    Illumination wire is usually tan.

Fun fact, it's intended to be the negative wire, and raises the voltage of the ground for the illumination circuits on stock switches. So you'll have to get very creative if you want the dimming to work correctly.

Axisofoil so is not like connecting an "add a circuit" fuse on the illumination fuse and that's it? I was pretending to do that but I got confused about what you said..

Do you think I can do that? Mi switch has the cable that says "to be connected to an illumination circuit" so I thought it was easy.. Just connect and done...

You can. The dimming just works backwards, in general.

I'm not sure that an add a fuse will work though... You might be looking more at a t-tap or similar.

Most of the switches are set up for the "illumination" wire to act as the + lead, with variable voltage above a common ground. These trucks seem to want to offer a common +12v, and a variable ground voltage to create the dimming effect.

Dude you know a lot... I know nothing about electricity... I'm going to try that and if it not works I'll leave it without the dimming option... I don't want to pay someone to do for that.. I'll let you know.. Thanks for the info!!

I know too much about a few things, and not enough about most.

I'm working in a cheap way to make aftermarket switches play nice with the Tacoma dimming scheme, but running short on having enough time to actually design that stuff. The simplest way I've seen so far is to break apart the switch and rewire it... But that's a ridiculous way to do it imo.

 Broke a tab on that stupid under dash box... and it's on the box side, not the cover, so there's no way to fix it without a whole new fuse box.

It still refuses to release when you put a flat blade screwdriver in the front slot. I pried gently at first, then firmly enough to make white stress marks in the plastic, and that front side does NOT release. Finally what happened was I was pulling downwards on the cover with the screwdriver in the slot and I hear a "snap!" ... out falls a little tiny tab from the rear.:annoyed: So now it sort of hangs off on one side.

Why the hell did they make this stupid thing simultaneously so fragile and so difficult to remove? I'm not an ape, I remove interior & body panels all the time (on many different cars, at that) without snapping their retaining tabs.

    dude be careful
I once told a home owner they can stick their finger in the empty fuse spots on their panel that its only 120V it just tickles a little.

They then proceeded to go and do it. Luckily I stopped them before they actually did it.
I mean sure touching the side of a plug that has no current to it tickles...but the whole bus bar? very far from a tickle haha

the scary words I've heard from many homeowners after they call me to fix what they tried to do. ugh
be careful with your truck dude.

Might not think it but 12V DC can be deadly and rather painful. What you're doing might not be that bad but if you start getting into other stuff just be careful. Besides hurting yourself you could fry some vital components.

At the end I didn't touch the fuse box.. My harnes included ground and light for the switch so I feel better without touching the fuse box...

Just don't forget to turn fogs off and that's it... Is almost impossible for me to forget that.. I have had cars with fogs wired directly so I'm used to it..

    Thanks for the advice!!!

If I hardwire any low voltage devices such as dash cam or radar, would the add-a-fuse (fuse tap) protrude too far to put this cover back on? If so, I'll just rip it off and keep it in the glove box.

Any other fuse suggestions for dome lights before I pull them all? I did the same thing, but my dome fuse is not blown. LED job was five seconds from being finished and then darkness...

Folks I just got a dashcam that I want to hard-wire, and the hard wire kit requires installation into GROUND and into the IGNITION STARTING SWITCH. I also got TAP Adapters for the fuse box to use.

Can anyone tell me which fuse exactly and which GROUND connection I need to connect these to? Much appreciated. This is for a 2016 TRD Sport. Thanx.
