I have been reading through all the posts regarding the pop-n-lock system. I don't like the idea of splicing into factory wiring, so I was really impressed by the solution @Aznray came up with:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/power-tailgate-lock.393110/page-15#post-12869245

TL;DR; He bought the the male and female connectors from Toyota, and made a pigtail that could be plugged right into the bulkhead, and the factory harness gets plugged into the back of the pigtail. Very clean, no problems with poor connections, and the whole thing can be reverted back to factory in minutes.

As @Aznray pointed out, the downside to all this is the fact that Toyota charges so much for the parts, that you'll be about $100 in just on wires and plugs. Also, you still need to solder or butt-splice the individual wires together. Looking at the wires, pins, and housings, I am certain that Toyota is supplied by a 3rd party Vendor, and it must be possible to purchase the pins themselves and crimp them onto wires yourself (with the correct specialty crimpers, of course), so that the wires could be precut to length, and the pins/sockets crimped on each end, with no need for any soldering or splicing. I have been searching for this information, and so far have not had any luck finding the original manufacturer, or any other source for the pins.

If there is anyone on here that has more information, or can give me some tips on where to look (I've primarily checked out Mouser and Newark, along with a ton of plain google searches). Perhaps a good place to start would be obtaining any information about who Toyota typically uses as a supplier for electrical connectors. I have looked at Delphi, Molex, Amphenol, etc, and so far have not found any connectors that resemble these.

If these components can be identified, I could possibly start making these pigtails in bulk and selling them to anyone interested here. I think it would alleviate a lot of the frustration that people have had with the Pop-n-lock system (Identifying the correct wires, poor connections, etc) - it would literally be a plug and play system.

I can’t point you in any particular direction, but I have seen a number of places that show all of the OEM options and part numbers. This also may be helpful/useful.

EDIT: I googled and found this... see if it helps you.

    Very helpful - Thanks!

And for the good of anyone else who is pursuing this - This connector is a "double Lock" connector (per the pdf posted above by @NoOne), and the terminal type is 2.3 (II) (2.3mm wide)

I finally got my taco and I’m doing this project! I made the wiring harness for about $25 in parts!
