All this “don’t get 5100s” is making me nervous. I’m about to pull the trigger on the 5100s with Dakar’s: 5100 w/887, light racing UCAs, heavy duty pack
    HS16BK-1-DAKAR

Then I stumble onto this thread :annoyed:

Here's the build with before and after pics. I've updated it regularly as the time passes, still very pleased with the results and it's been more than adequate for what I need.

Here's how it sits after 18 months

For your budget I'd still go 6112/5160 and stay at 2 inches with a 265/75/16 tire. That size seems to be the sweet spot for driveability, performance an reliability. Go any bigger and you can really go down the rabbit hole in money and mods to make it work.

I love my Dakar rears, I just have the mediums and have hauled 600+ in my bed on long road trips, it tows way better now too.

Get the 5160's in the rear, there a couple hundred more but they have the brake line relocation kit and hold up better to extended use.

You can just put a spacer on top.. it's not a big deal to run a 1/2" spacer.

Thanks guys. Seems like 2” isn’t super noticeable, I’m assuming in person it is?

Also, which Dakar’s... the light medium or HD? Just looking to keep the stock capabilities

It's very noticeable when next to a stock truck but like I said its more the sweetspot. It's not too high so you look like a tonka truck, affect mileage or need marshmellow tires but still high enough that you get plenty of capability offroad.

Mediums, I tow a 3500lb boat with it, and load it down for hunting trips, no issues.

So maybe a dumb question, why 6112s over 5100s? I’m fine with getting the UCAs either way if it’s better in the long run even at 2”

OME 887 coils with Bilstein 5100's, set at 0, 1/4" driver side spacer up front for about 2" front lift. Wheelers 3 leaf add a leaf in the rear with the overload spring removed and 5100s in the rear for about 1 1/2" rear lift. Cost me about $950 in parts. Did the install myself, thanks to this site and Youtube U! Local alignment shop, Joe's Alignment in Blythe California did a kick ass job. I have a trip through Colorado, Durango to Silverton, and about 15,000 miles on the lift now. I still go out in the garage to drink a few beers and look at it. Oh it rides a little better than stock in my and my wife's opinion, highway ride. Off road, it handles the wash board roads a little better but it isn't a Raptor by any means. I love it.

6112 on the right, much bigger shock with more oil and cooling capability so it's not going to fade nearly as fast as a 5100 on something like a washboard surface.

The 5100/887 vs stock. I had my doubts, prior to install, that these were going to give me any additional lift. But sure enough I got about 2 inches. I guess they are firmer.

Plenty of people offroad in the 5100/885/886/887/888 combo and plenty just run them for the look on the road. Nothing wrong with the setup, but once you outgrow them and start doing things that weren’t meant for the setup, it’s no longer a good choice.

As far as headstrong goes, they admit and said it multiple times, 100 and 100s of people call everyday asking what setup to buy and the numerous questions of a lift and ask the same questions all day everyday, they would be on the phone for 30min plus with each customer. It’s easier to email, copy and paste answers and reach everyone all at once. Although I understand it can be frustrating from other point of views.

To the OP 2” is plenty of lift. The lifts you see that are 3” lift, theyre maxing out their preload on their coilovers. No setup should be maxing them out. It’s exremely hard to reach a 3” lift and have a comfy ride as most setup will settle. You will have to sacrifice something either way. 2” lift is perfect, 3” is more for looks at that point as Your not doing any crazy off-roading.

6112s on the highest 6/5 setting with 650lb coils that I switched out from the 600lb spring it comes with. I have 2 1/4” of lift up front and 3” in the rear using icon rxt leaf and 5160s. JBA UCAs, 286/75/16 Toyo RTs. I like rake on my trucks,. I’m preparing for a steel bumper and etc so it should come down about .5-.75” in the rear. Also did the ECGS upgrade.

6112 is a good setup for your needs unless you absolutely want more than a 2” lift. They will take you anywhere and everywhere.

Good luck on your decision! Lots of good setups!

    Too much.
I have the 5100s, OME 884, 1-1/2" AAL and a 1/4" spacer on the driver's side for lean. I did it for to help out on sketchy camp roads as well as for looks. Did the install with my cousin, then an alignment the next day. No issues here.

Looking great guys! Looks like 2” is fine. Now it’s a matter of 5100s all around or 6112/5160

I thought my post would steer you to the 6112 assuming the extra money cost vs the 5100s isn’t a deal breaker. 6112 is a better system comparing the 2

6112 come with a 60mm piston with a 2.65” body, more oil better cooling, same size piston as a fox, icon, king piston, vs 46mm piston of the 5100 meaning 100xs Better ride and can take bigger hit off-roading if you hit a dip or pot hole. 5160 is exactly like a 5100, but it has a rear resi for more oil meaning better cooling capacity and allow more travel while off-roading.

You by chance have pics of what your CV angles look like or what your hub to fender measurements are. Truck looks sick, I have 5100s all around with HS 3 AAL in back and 888 up front but want more lift up front, only got about 1.75 inch DCLB 4x4, thinking of adding a small spacer for the time being but don't want to overdue anything.
