Have you pulled the plugs to make sure there isn't water in the cylinders? And you might want to try pulling electrical plugs a parts and spraying them with wd-40 to help get the water out of them.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Pull the plugs and and pull the EFI fuse. Dry cycle the starter to makes sure any and all water is out of the top half of the engine. Disconnect the battery for a few days while you pull the carpet and seats. Drain the rear, front, T-case and let them dry out too. (just incase). The tranny has a specific procedure for a drain and fill. Throw away the air filter. You may want to drain the gas too.

I can imagine the list of codes that have popped up, but if you can post them up we can get specific on the area's that will need addressed.

the dip stick is not a good indicator of whether or not there's water in the oil. The dip stick measures at the top of the oil and oil floats on water so you won't see water on the stick. Change the oil before trying to start it, its cheap insurance you don't blow the engine.

But like others have said I'd just call up the insurance company. Most flood cars start to have bigger issues later down the line. Not worth the risk. Would suck if you got it running now and then it crapped out in a few weeks and the insurance company said your SOL.

Seems like people so far have given you a good starter list so far. If the truck was in up to the hood, there will be a lot of damage that will cost you a lot of money and maybe even disappointment in the long run. Are you sure trying to save it will be worth it? It's a relatively new truck, one that is expected to have a lot of years left, but may not be able to perform. You won't get your money's worth.

Why don't you want to go the insurance route? That's what insurance is for. Surely a new truck would not give you worries later.

I'm just glad that you didn't get hurt or trapped in the truck yourself. Good to see that you are here and posting. And kudos to you for helping out others! :)

Good luck with your decision to rebuild. It will take a while but I'm hoping all works out well for you.

I think the part you are missing is that everyone is saying call your insurance because this is not going to be a cheap repair. You are probably looking at thousands, if not tens of thousands, to repair/replace all of the wet ruined parts. This is what your insurance is there for.

Other than calling your insurance a few more pieces of advice might include:

When you are told to evacuate because flooding is likely - Do it!

When the folks on TV say don't drive through standing water because you never know how deep it may be listen to them.

This. It will likely never be right without replacing the interior.

There's a reason why many/most states treat vehicles damaged in a flood with a salvage title or a "flood title" or something like it.

    Insurance will total it

wow glad you were there and saw what happened. I did not attempt to cross standing water. I was helping people who had when the river broke through the rail bed in a 30' section. water was over 100 yards away from my truck but went from bare road to 3 feet of water in seconds i heards the water break through, ran to my truck and jumped in just in time for it to be swept into the water. I was on my way home from work. I thank everyone who has had something helpful to say, my frustration is the people on here that make assumptions and have nothing better to do but shit on people. some of those NEVER have anything good to say. Beauty of the internet i guess you can say what you want without reprocussions. the truck was only submerged alittle over the doors. about 3" of water came inside. because i was heading downhill slightly the nose was in deeper than the rear.

You mean it wasn't COMPLETELY submerged??

Almost sounds like what happens when people get stuck while taking offroad! Then maybe you DO have a chance at saving it!! Have you had a chance to check the offroading section here? I've seen so many pics of trucks in water and mud that surely someone must have had something like this happen to them.

Relax, dude. It was admirable of you to try and help people, I would have done the same thing depending on the circumstances (my life versus theirs, etc...). Fact is, you made it sound like you intentionally went through deep water.

Ignore smart ass replies and just focus on what works best for your situation - fixing/having it fixed out of pocket, or having your insurance appraise it.

It's as simple as that until you decide what to do.

OP - People here are giving you good advice. CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Unless you have something to hide, there is no reason to NOT get them involved. It will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration in the near future. Don't be a dick to everyone just because you didn't get the answer you wanted.

With Irene hitting as hard as it did, I doubt there would be an article for every flood in every town.

I saw at least four or five videos of floods on the Weather channel this morning.

I do agree it's weird that he hasn't called his insurance company yet. It could be something as innocent as him not having comprehensive coverage...or it could be something else...

It's a 2010. I don't know if it's paid off but don't you have to have full coverage on a newer truck if it's still owned by the bank?
