What is the right way to insert it? I have the little skirt facing out. Sorry don't know how else to explain it.

I was planning on using a socket, but I did not have one big enough. So I started to think what else I had lying around in my garage that was about the same size. I thought I was being clever tying out the shop vac tube. The wide end fit over the skirt part of the seal and I tapped the other end gently with a rubber mallet. Honesty, if it is supposed to be flush I could have just used my fingers.

Okay. So I'm looking at my old seal that I removed. It has a piece of metal on the inside. My new seal did not have that. Does that matter? Was I supposed to remove the metal and place it into the new rubber seal? When installing it, is the metal face in or out?

shouldn't be that easy, in my experience that seal puller is good for gouging the metal if your not inside the back of the seal

I did my drivers side, so far not leaks. Maybe flush isn’t as essential for that side.

If you could push it in with your fingers, I think that’s a bit odd. It should require some tappy tap taps. Show us the old seal and metal you are talking about. The picture of the seal you posted at the beginning of the thread shows the proper orientation.

I just read that if you install too deep, seal doesn’t mate with axle properly.

I am going to guess that it is leaking because of installing seal to deep. The “skirt” is supposed to face outward. However if you went a whole 1/8” in, that might explain why it is leaking.

You may have to try again. And I might as well if I left mine out too far. I even knicked the edge of mine like an idiot. But it was oreiented at the top so maybe it won’t leak.

I got the seal installed flush now, but this time I cant get the CV to go in. For the past 2.5 hours I have been banging on it with a hammer. My mood is not stellar.

It takes some finagling but man you shouldn’t be just banging on it with a hammer unless you know it’s lined up...

The splines must mesh and you could destroy the diff.

For me I could feel it...should only have to do a few hits for it to noticeably slide in

When you insert it try having the c clip opening facing down

No go still. Don't know why it is not going in. I can stick it in by hand most of the way leaving maybe an inch. The fat part of the spindle. Then no matter what I try it goes no further. I really suck at this.

I used a long pry bar or punch set against one of the flat spots of the octagonal shaped housing. Used a hammer to tappy tap tap it in. Not hard. If it stopped moving, rotate it very slightly and try again

    Like Anthony25f said.
Also if you haven't already. Try compressing the shaft as much as possible before driving the axle in. It can be a pain but shouldn't take more than a couple strikes if you have the splines lined up and no push back from the boots and joints inside. If that makes sense. I use a 3lb hammer and usually only takes one or two smacks to persuade it.

Great point. I think the cv is all stretched out now. Maybe its sucking itself back. I will try compressing it tomorrow.
