    Sup,

This is my first time installing spark plugs & wires and I am following this write up

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1s...park-plugs-wires-2-7-liter-3rz-fe-engine.html

I've did the first two but, the 3rd spark plug is blocked from the intake. So I am unable to get to it unless I remove the intake or somehow move it to the side temporarily. Can anyone give me a link on a write up someone did on removing the stock intake and reinstalling it? Or some advice please? I have a 2000 Tacoma with a 3rz engine. Btw I am a newb obviously haha! Let me know if you guys want to see some pics to get a better look/visualization.

    -Thank you!

If you're just talking about the intake tube, there should be a couple hose clamps you need to loosen to take the tube off. When I did my plugs and wires I think I took the tube off the throttle body end and the airbox end and. I believe there is another hose or two coming off the intake tube you need to remove as well. Those are also held on by hose clamps. It's pretty simple, really.

It is possible to change the plugs without doing anything to the intake. I changed the plugs on my '98 3RZ just a couple weeks ago without removing the intake. The link you posted also states that there is just enough room to clear the intake. I'm not sure if the '00 3RZ motor has the coil on the cylinder head itself or if it has plug wires. If it has plug wires then follow the wire for cylinder 3 down to the coil pack and disconnect it. Next lift the boot off of the plug and pull it towards the cab until the coil end of the wire comes out from under the intake; install the plug and reinstall the wire in reverse order from what I just described.

If you feel like you can't get it for some reason and want to take off the intake it will be a bit more complicated (still very easy). There is a plastic section of tubing coming off the air box; loosen the clamps at either end and remove it. That will leave the metal tube which connects to the throttle body still in your way. To remove it you need to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body. Also, there are 2 12mm bolts that attach to the cylinder head hiding under the resonator (?, black box hanging below the tube). Remove the bolts and vacuum lines (should be 2 vacuum lines if its like my 98) then you will be able to remove that section of the intake.

Thanks for the input guys. I see the clamps at each end which I marked in red. Where I circled in pink, that one tube is where its unfortunately right over the spark plug. I don't think I can remove the 3rd spark plug without removing the intake first. I don't have any clearance to pull off the plug boot and inserting a ratchet. Btw its a 3rz motor from a 97 4runner (idk if that would make a difference). Where I circled yellow that square box thing is mounted would I have to remove that as well?

I didn't realize you had a 4-Runner motor in there. The intake is different than that of my Tacoma. Any advice I can give you would just be a guess based on your pictures; can you remove the tube that you have circled in pink? I'm assuming not, otherwise, you wouldn't be asking. If you can remove that then you might be able to clear the intake using a long enough extension on the ratchet.

That box you have circled in yellow is part of the intake (at least it is on my truck) and you would have to remove it. That is the section that has the 12mm bolts (x2) hiding under it; could be different on that 4-Runner motor. There is a hose clamp between the two that you have circled in red (just to the left of the yellow circle in your photo). I would loosen it and remove anything else attached to the first section of intake tubing then get that section out of your way. Then you can look around under the box circled in yellow to find the bolts or whatever may be attaching it to the motor. Good luck.

i think 3RZ is right, i don't know why 4-runner would be any different

the part of the intake hose that is the hard plastic part above the third spark plug should be connected to the plastic box circled in yellow. you need to unscrew to 2 nuts (around 9-12 mm) that screw onto two studs that are connected to the plastic box and thus attach the box to a medal bracket. This is straight down of the yellow circle.

Good news guys mission accomplished! Took me quite a while but, I had a good time and a great learning experience. You guys were correct there were 2 nuts hiding under that boxed shaped piece. I've followed your guys advice and it went really well! I took a bunch of pics so you guys can check it out. Ran into a problem though with the final spark plug it was the winning stretch then boom it hit me. The coil where you plug in the spark plug wire was all corroded so I went to O'Reilly's and got a replacement for 85$. Wasn't all that bad because it was easy to uninstall the coil because they were only 2 nuts to unscrew and a plug. Also O'Reilly's is only a 10 minute drive from home. Thanks for the help guys!
