Help picking tires

Hello All,
I am having trouble deciding on new tires for my 2020 TRD Sport. I am a Park Ranger in Arizona and I find myself doing about 75%/25% highway/off road. Of that 25% about 20% is just dirt and fire roads but that last 5% can be some no bullshit rocky terrain. I plan on sticking with the stock 265/65/R17 but to my understanding I can snag a tiny bit of extra height with an 265/70/R17 which I'm not opposed to. I am really just looking for reliability and to not absolutely crush my fuel economy.

I’m biased but my vote goes to Toyo Open Country A/T III. 265/70/17 SL

 

Just put on 265/70/17 Michelin LTX M/S on my 21 Sport. Much better than the stock TOYO tires. I do pretty much zero off-road. I heard the Michelin LTX AT2 is great too if you do a lot of highway driving with some off-road.

 

Get the KO2's E-rated. I live in southern AZ and was so tired of getting flats with P-rated tires. Got some KO2s and will never look back.

 

I love my kbro2s. Had the wildpeaks too. Great tire.

The kbros from costco when on sale are a steal at 750ish, mounted balanced, and with 50k mile warranty. I have put them through hell and back and never worried about them. 100% recommend.

 

I have the wildpeaks for me at a C load range. Have outshined on every no-bullshit rocky terrain I have come across.

No real noticeable loss in mpg, still can get in the upper 19's if I drive like a granny.

 

I have the wild peaks. Mine suck in the rain and there new. 5k miles on them. Don’t do good in any tiny bit of standing water on the highway

I have the wildpeaks A/T3W.
Just took em for a ride last month up to 4 peaks on that 20 mile bumpy ass road. I thought they handled great.
I'm sure they'll handle just about any forest/service roads out here without issue.
KO2's are also really good.

Yeah the (1) time I have ever driven in snow up in flag, in february I think, the wildpeaks definitely felt good. Only (1) instance of me breaking traction going down hill on the 17 before the plow thinking I could accelerate from 24 mph to a nice rounded 25mph.
But was able to pull my friends f150 off the side of the road with no chains, so the get the A in my book.

 

Of those choices, I’ve had 3 sets of Terra Grapplers. 1 set BFG KO2.

Also had 2 sets of Hankook Dynapro ATMs.

They’re all about the same in my opinion for my uses. It’s really whatever flavor you think tastes the best.

For me I can usually get the Nittos for the cheapest price, that’s why I’ve gotten them more.

 

They will all be fine. Just gotta decide on your load rating too. SL, C or E and E isn't necessary for what you're doing from your description

 

Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus is available in the 265/70 but only an E-load in that size. Great tire for your described duty if your don't mind the E-load harshness and it's mountain/snowflake rated for winter use. It's available in a C-load in 275/70 but you would need a different wheel to fit those without other modifications.

 

I have Wildpeaks in 265 70 17 SL that I picked up on sale for $150 each from Amazon. They've been great tires so far and performed very well in the snow over winter!

 

My 2019 came with stock Toyos........... great tire.

Really not a bad tire in the bunch. You really can't go wrong. I am partial to the Nittos because I am on my second set. But I have never driven all of the other tires so any opinion I give you will not be objective.

One suggestion for you ... which might sound crazy ... but is something I would do. I think the folks that product the Overland Journal are in northern Arizona. And I think there is a really good shop there as well. Maybe connect with those guys and talk tires. The only reason I suggest that is they may have a solid sense of what will work best in the terrain you are driving on.

They're all probably just fine choices.

I just sprung for the Kenda AT2s myself, mostly due to price, but they're also mountain snowflake rated. Also looked at the new Maxxis Razr AT.
