HELP with check engine light code P2238

I have a 2013 taco 6cyl 44000 miles and it throwing this code P2238 positive current low

I believe its the o2 sensor . where is this sensor located? here is a picture from scan tool. would the emission warranty cover this?

 

Check your battery first. Mine was throwing a O2 sensor low voltage code due to a weak battery.

 

I doubt the emissions warranty would cover it, that's for the cats themselves.

This is very helpful . just so i understand this is the passenger side sensor just after the manifold. I guessing its that sensor rather than wiring. would you use a Toyota sensor or after market? again thanks for the help

I know on Honda's, I've used non-oem parts for emission controls (Like O2 sensors) and they didn't last as long as OEM. Very limited experience and different make of vehicle, but I'll go OEM when something goes on the Toyota.

 

I should add that when I put an OEM O2 sensor in the Honda, the sensor lasted as long as the original (about 60k miles) vs about 20k on the non-oem.

 

I used

$134 Denso 234-9026 Air Fuel Sensor

Denso 234-9026. I didn't even need them, because like I mentioned, once I put in a new battery the code went away on its own after about three days. I also had an ABS low voltage code, which also went away.

By that point I had already ordered the sensors, so I went ahead and replaced them anyways since my truck is at 100k miles. I didn't feel like fooling with sending them back.

 

I believe 09+ uses a different p/n longer cables because they're relocated on the pipes.

 

when i look up the Denso part it shows 234-9111

 

Mine has headers, so no idea.

So I went out to start my truck today, but I didn’t hold the key long enough, so it stumbled and I had to restart it (I’m used to auto start in the Tundra). After I started driving the CEL light came back on, and it’s the P2238 code. Both of my upstream O2 sensors are new. All I can think of is that one little stumble where it didn’t start right away must have set the code.

 

In my case it turned out to be something in the plug, After i got the parts i unplugged it. But i needed another tool I plugged it back in and it went off and has never sent the code again. I would unplug it and make sure its dry and re plug in. Its worth a try

 

I cleared the code and drove it a couple more cycles, and so far no more CEL. It has been rainy today, so who knows. That code seems to be a very easy one to set on Toyotas. The first time it set it was due to a weak battery.

 

My 2013 with 52k miles has had a p2237 and p2238 off and on for probably 2-3 months now. It would stay on for awhile and go off for awhile. I decided to unplug the sensor, check out the connector and plug it back up. The light stayed out for about 800 or so miles before coming back on and it's still on nearly a month later.

 

Hmm. I may try to get some electrical contact cleaner and spray the connectors.
