My ps4 will play dvds and blue rays but not games. Started last night. When I put a game in it makes the noise like when you first put a game in but it does that repetitively. Then it makes the noise to eject but doesn't spit the disc out. Then it makes the original noise a few more times then stops. That's when out comes up as "disc not recognized." I've done everything I can think of from what I've seen online.

I've been reading its the latest software update thats funking things up.

    Edit:

out of curiosity i googled it too and i've also read the laser module could need to be replaced:

"This is a fairly common problem with PS4's. You'll need to replace the drive or the laser at a minimum. Usually just replacing the laser will fix this issue, but sometimes they need the entire drive replaced."

Thanks for the tip. I called Sony yesterday and since it's still under warranty I can just send it in to get fixed for free. Will just be without the console for 15 days.

Look around Google for "ps4 rubber foot sensitivity" I was having similar issues with mine and turns out the rubber foot under the eject button is hypersensitive and causes the drive to get confused

Mine is the laser. I have to send it in to get fixed. It's still under warranty so I don't mind

Wow, laser is giving up early. I just bought a PS4 last week because my PS3's BR laser went bad, but it took 7 years. I was going to replace it but have been wanting a new console for a while now anyway and this was a good reason to pull the trigger.

Off topic, but would the heat being generated by the PS4 affect internet connectivity performance?

I have mine in a cubby on my entertainment stand and never once had a problem with overheating. I would get shitty wifi from time to time but I would go into settings and run a connectivity test for the wifi signal and that would seem to fix the issue. Either that or reset my router from time to time. I did upgrade my router to a dual band and that seemed to help out with the wifi immensely. I find myself not running that test or having to reset the router as often as I use to. Keep in mind though, my internet service, I didn't choose the one for gaming or streaming. I went with the speed under that and haven't really had any issues. When I move into my new house I think I will upgrade the internet just to avoid future problems with the wifi.

I have my PS4 out in the open (standing upright on top of a dresser) and sometimes have a house fan blowing right at it and the PS4 fan is ungodly loud. Just hope i'm not damaging the machine. It has been hot lately and no a/c hurts but still...

I may end up hard wiring mine as well since the new house will have a room for my office. That way I can just set up my spare tv for gaming and have my desk and computer and everything else centralized in one location.
