    i am trying to give a quote to ship something, but i dont know where to start. how do you figure shipping? by weight or by size or both? whats a website for it? thanks

    all the normal postal services should have a section for finding shipping estimates. having the dimensions and the weight will give you a more accurate quote.

    The most basic information to give a rough estimate is weight, shipping origin and destination zip. For example, a 10 pound package originating from 23111 to 98404 (VA to WA state) would cost $15.48 via FedEx (if you don't have an account and the destination is commercial (not a person's house).

    The same shipment would cost $17.20 via UPS. USPS varies with prices, but if you can fit it into any of their flat rate boxes, your cost will be less than FedEx or UPS.
