@dman100 I'm getting the hard tonneau cover and I would rather put the bike in the back and close/lock everything up. Especially helpful in florida where there is a lot of salt in the air that could potentially corrode bike parts. I am hoping mine fits to I can shut the tailgate and cover securely. Probably not an ideal set up for camping, when I need the bed for other equipment. At this time, I'll probably explore these rocky mounts and remove my cover. Would be cool if the mount could be installed on the tonneau cover but that would affect the way it folds up.

Honestly, when I carried my friend's Niner lying down, I don't recall if it stuck above the bed rails. So try before you buy. I actually took my bikes to the dealer to make sure they would fit standing up with front wheels removed, and tailgate shut, before I bought it. The sales guy was very patient.

I use a Swagman xtc2. its cheap and requires no pulling the front tire off. It even accepts my mid fat tires for my hightower, they do make bigger rings for fatbikes

I just picked up my TRD off road and threw my bike in the back and it fits with wheel off and tonneau shut. :bananadance:

I used a hitch mounted platform and just added wheel guides. Worked like a charm...

I have used this pvc pipe bike rack going on two years....can hold 3 bikes just as long as the middle one is a medium frame. Materials cost $140 and I have had zero issues. Found the plans and specifications on the net.Screenshot_2016-04-02-15-56-23.jpg

Finally got my hands on my new truck and took the bike out. Test fit the 19.5" (XL) frame into the bed. It will work with handlebars first but not back tire first. Tonneau will shut and lock, and bike did not roll around. I'm also getting a bed mat to give it a little more traction just in case.

I made a 3 bike version of this out of about $15 in PVC when I had my 2nd gen. I put the front wheel in it, and turn my back wheels to the corner and my tailgate closes. Medium size frame 27.5 tires. I'm guessing it wouldn't work with a 29r in a 5' bed. I thought about using the same basic principle but building it for 2 bikes to fit facing corner to corner but I'm busy dicking around on a new PVC contraption for storage of 2 kayaks and 2 upright or hanging bikes in the garage. PVC is like Lincoln Logs for adults.

Rocky mounts are great. I never had a problem with mine on road trips.

    Contact Cody at Recon Racks.

    http://recon-racks.com/

The best rack I've ever seen. I bought one - and the stand for in my garage. I can - no exaggeration - unload 4 bikes off the rack in my garage, put the rack on my truck, and reload 4 bikes in well under 10 minutes.

Cody is a stand up guy and recently quit his 'real job' to make racks full time. They're not cheap but by the time you dick around trying to do it yourself - you'd probably spend the same amount of $$ and have a product not nearly as nice.

Tell him Joel from Vancouver sent you.

BTW - Cody is an avid offroader. He used to drive a Taco but I think he moved up to a full sized recently. He takes his bikes out to the shit - so built a rack to handle punishment. I've got some pix to upload I suppose but you can see Cody's pix on his website.

    Wait for it...
I have Rocky mounts, hitch carrier & tailgate pad as options for carrying but I still haven't come up with a solid way of carrying 1 of my bikes (full squish or road bike) IN the bed WITH BOTH wheels on & tailgate closed. Both bikes will fit diagonal & gate closed but I need to make a wheel chock for front wheel & secure method for rear wheel. Hoping someone chimes in with a corner chock they've made. Hate hooking ratchet straps on bikes that have a comma in the price. Capture+_2017-01-31-11-51-20.jpg Capture+_2017-01-31-11-50-47.jpg

2 Yakima viper racks on my roof. Very low profile. Just need to remove the front wheels.

This is my method as well and it works like a champ. I don't see a reason to ever change. I have a some rails for a camper shell that I may install on my 2x12 so that I have the ability to slide the fork mounts around or add an additional bike. This has been working really well for me. When it's just me, I just throw it in there without mounting it up and it fits fine.

    Nice rack!

Have input over on another thread on TW about tailgate clearance and I am 90% sold on the 1-UP. Only thing I need to push me over the edge is a clean picture showing a 3rd Gen with tailgate full lowered and NOT hitting the 1-UP rack at all.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...h-mount-bike-rack.438318/page-2#post-13756655

Ideal would be a rack that allows you to sit on the tailgate, fully lowered, bikes in rack and not have to remove the bike closest to the vehicle....not sure if that is even possible

Anyone have a pic of the 3rd gen tailgate clearance with 1-UP? (OR another rack aside from North Shore that allows my fatness to sit on tailgate with rack on)
