I recently helped my son buy a 06 Tacoma from my brother in central New York and then had it shipped to Truckee, California. The truck has approx 120,000 miles on it. My son needed wheels and I loved my old Tacoma I had in the 80's, so I talked him into getting this truck from my brother. The truck was running great in New York, but two days after unloading the truck in Truckee the maintenance light came on. I told my son it could be due to the change in elevation. Then one day later (last night) the clutch pedal crashed. He had to pull it up, then he could not push it back down. Now I am feeling pretty bad about talking him into buying it. I am trying to find a good reliable mechanic that lives around Truckee that could help us out. I am also wondering if being on that shipping truck for several days could have caused an air lock problem due to the incline positionon the truck.
    Thanks for your help!

Bummer. I hope it works out for you.

CEL could be MAF sensor. Try cleaning it. It would also idle rough due to not getting enough air or too much air.

Also check the clutch fluid for the slave cylinder. Might be out/low. Happened to my older truck and I had to replace the slave cylinder it was leaking so bad. Although my symptom was I'd press down the clutch and nothing would happen.

Maybe make sure the linkage isn't bound up for the pedal?

    These are all just ideas.

I don't know of any mechanics in truckee, but I know lots of good ones in Reno (30 minute drive) if he has a way to get it down here.

The maintainence light comes on at 4500 miles to remind you to do an oil change. To reset it, with the key off, push the odometer/trip switch until you see the odometer reading, then with the odometer reading showing, hold the button in like you would to reset the trip and turn the key on. Continue to hold the button down until you see it reset. You'll see six zeros on the odo when you're done. Then you can release the button.

Totally missed he said maintenance light. My brain went straight to CEL.

Ignore what I said. Although cleaning the MAF isn't a bad idea anyway.

So my son had it towed to a garage and I just found out they said the clutch failed! I hope he is not being taken. Any ideas how much a clutch job will cost? Thanks.
