I mean it already looks super aggressive and like they are bringing their A game but they’ll have to get past Toyotas perceived reliability and customer loyalty.

Can’t really compare the outgoing last year Tacoma to all new Canyon / Colorado especially being the last year with the mule Tacoma already out and about and confirmed 4 cylinder turbo the following year. It’ll be interesting to see once they both are competing. I was here when the new 15 GM twins dropped and it did steal away some Taco owners, many who also came back too once the 3rd gen showed up.

Toyota will make a huge mistake if they limit configurations on the new generation, like GM is doing. A lot of Tacoma sales are Access Cabs and DCLBs. Even if both have lame turbo4 EPA engines, Toyota will still have a clear advantage if they offer better configurations.

direct injection only for the Canyon is a deal breaker for me.

I'd not want to walnut blast the intake if I can avoid it.

Ya know, I'm pretty tired of hearing, every time a new competitive model is introduced, is they will beat the Tacoma.
    The Ranger.
    The Nissan.
    The Chevy.
    The Gladiator.

Truth is, Toyota does not make people buy trucks. They are not the cheapest. They are not the most off road worthy. They don't have the best on road manners, not highest payload or towing capacity. Not the most horsepower or torque either.

Yet, people buy more Tacomas than any other competitor. Why?

Also, Toyota does not brainwash their potential buyers. Trail rated anyone? :tumbleweed:

And, I don't think the reliability and durability angle works too well anymore as the competition does fairly good in those areas.

I am pretty sure of the answer. Any guesses?

Honestly, even if it’s got all the bells and whistles, macho styling, and performance in the world, the last truck I would ever buy is one powered by a GM turbo 4-banger. I just couldn’t do that to myself.

    i looked at all and
ranger - it looks not as wide and had a tall box and low resale value
nissan - no because its a new model and because its a nissan
chev no to the looks , long term reliability and resale value
jeep - liked the looks and ft locker but 5-$6k more and long trip ride comfort and long term reliability were factors
