Im at that point right now. And I totally agree about the rattles. Im just figuring out how im going to wire everything. Total noob at wiring car systems.

I have a 4 channel which i was planning for the speakers. And a single amp for the sub(s).

Id like to do 1 or 2 small under seat (front) subs but Im not sure thats possible with how tight it is.

Now comes the point of decision...
Head scratching and TW archive digging.

    1 or 2 subs?
Ive never put in an aftermarket sub before if you can believe it, had a few oem systems with them and thats all.
And if I go with 2, can I wire it with a mono amp? Initial research tells me yes.
Currently Im leaning towards 1 sub and mono amp for and wiring in a 2nd sub if I need more kick down the road.

The more I reasearch it the more complex my mini system is becoming lol...:annoyed:

I personally went with one sub because it is a small cab and I did not want everything rattling apart. Originally, I was going to go with two small 8" subs but changed my mind. The install is was not that bad. It took me a weekend to do it, and I had help from a friend who was in car audio business which was a great asset to have. If the project is too difficult, you can always have and car audio shop do it for you.

If you're putting in one 12" sub that is sufficient but when going smaller than 12s I would do two subs. The output is different when going even from 12s to 10s. But that's my preference and opinion.

Thats a good point. Misc rattling , possibly caused by the boom, would drive me nuts. I already have the random headliner and fron tweeter cover rattle. And I plan on driving her for another 15 years or so.

Do you have a link to your build?

Im parting out a list now. Keeping eyes open for deals. Sonix electronics seems like a pretty good source of info and parts.

Kind of hard to explain, more of a thing you have to experience. A 12" sub has more cone area and allows you to get more clarity and bass extension.

I'm currently putting two JL Audio 10TW3s in my Tacoma. I really wanted to do two 12s but I wasn't sure if they would fit since they required deeper boxes and more internal volume.

I am, I'm leaving the factory headunit in for now, maybe in a few years I'll upgrade to a Pioneer touchscreen.

Sub boxes are custom built. Its a custom build that I started in September. I've posted my progress of it in the "what have you done to your 3rd gen today?" thread. Maybe one day once its complete I'll do my own thread in this Audio & Video forum.

Hertz is excellent. Want something better than top of the line? Check out the Maestro stuff. It’s sick. I have a pair of their lowest end coaxial 6.5” and they were $300. Incredible sound quality. They have an 8ohm resistance so you’d better get a stronger amp than you’d expect.

    Ill do some digging thx.
If your wondering the stock head unit for vehicle integration can still be had with aftermarket from what Ive seen if u spend big $$$ on the deck. Some pretty trick stuff out there now.
There was a post I was reading awhile ago where a guy had tire pressures, cameras etc, steering wheel controls

Thanks man. I got front and rears for 250 so I cant complain. So far without the amp they are so crisp but zero low range. Fine though cuz sub will come later if the 4 channel doesnt pump them up enough

Doing 4 ohms at about 100 w plus each channel. We ll see how it goes

EDIT- REPLACED ORIGINAL ECX 6X9 WITH THE CX690 (under warranty)

@stealthmode, what are you doing for the sub? I'm interested in the JL Audio stealthbox, but I don't think it's perfect. Debating whether to make myself a custom box. I'm thinking that I'd love to fit a 12" in there since I have a great Type R, but it'd be nice to get a JL w6 so I wouldn't need to get a new sub amp. I've got the rockford fosgate Power T1500-1bd amp and love it. But I'd have to turn it way down even for a single w6.

@ZrowGz which stealth box? They come in single and double right?
Ive considered them before for fitment and ease of installation but price point is where I disagree. Not saying they are not worth it, just not for me.

The JL sub looks mean though. So you have a type R already and an amp right? Your looking for a different sounding low?
My build objective so far has been decent mid quality with low price point. Im going to do a 750 buck build page. :D

Yeah, the price point is absurd. All though I'd pay it if they'd simply swap in a w6 for the difference in cost. No go.
    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13694107/JL-Audio-Stealthbox-Gray.html?tp=113

Single 10" w3 included. But that RMS is only like 300-500w. This amp puts out 1500. I used it in my previous two cars and it is amazing. Probably overpowered for what I'll do here, but that's ok. I can turn the gain down to minimum ;)

I've also got the Hertz 4-channel HDP-4 that does like 100 or 120w per channel. Beautiful clean crisp sound. I think each amp was around $800? Hertz maybe a hundred less? But I've gotten 6 years worth of use of them so far.

My two Type-R's are in a sealed box that would basically take up the whole backseat. Not interested. I like the thought of the JL stealth sine it hids the sub from view of thieves. But, I'd rather stealth it in more by bringing it forward to match up with the armrest in the front. Basically giving the rear seat a full on armrest too! Glass it. Then carpet it to match. I'm a fan of sealed. It isn't as loud, but smaller boxes and cleaner, tighter notes across a wider range of frequencies.

Also, I think that Hertz amp has blown my door speakers so I'll be getting new ones that have RMS ranges in the 100-150 next time. Whoops.

Not sure why I missed this thread for so long!

I also have the Hi-Energy speakers although I went with the 6.5" coaxials in the back and 6.5" components in the front and I couldn't be happier. Mine are being powered at 150w each with a JL Audio HD 600/4 amp. They obviously sounded good, but they really come alive once I adjusted the sound processor. I might have missed it but do you have a sound processor for your setup?

I'm not using a sub yet, but if you look in my signature, you can see I used a single ported 10" in the past. It filled in the low end very nicely (but I was using different speakers then). I might do something similar, but I just haven't had the time to make a new box yet.

I have been using my Hertz HDP-5 for about 4 years now and have had no problems whatsoever with it. It is pushing Hybrid Audio Speakers, a 10” JL sub, and just recently switched to an Alpine head unit from my crappy Pioneer. Could not be happier with how everything sounds and run. The HDP-5 amp has plenty of power for what I have pushed it with no issues.

Happy Friday 2 me. One of the speakers (ecx690 ) started sounding crackly and rattling. I bought the warranty at the time for like 20 bux and since that model is now discontinued - they replaced with these. See link.
Bit of an upgrade. Bought the originals for 100...:D:D:D:D:D

Although I still dont have my amp hooked up lol. I'm lazy AF
