That reaction is perfectly normal. It was a stupid accident caused by someone who wasn't paying attention. (If you're going to look away from the road, take foot off gas pedal) Glad all involved are well! But, I think that Robert Palmer song did you in. Volvo's have a secret crush on Tacomas...

Here are a couple shots of the camera mount positions and the underside of the right rear corner. I don't know enough about this to determine whether there is frame damage myself, but I am worried about it.

I have the camera set up record anytime the engine is running. There's a kit where you can have it record in limited capacity while the vehicle is parked as well.

I was a little skeptical about allowing it to record audio, speed info, etc. but figured you can just not use the clips if they point the finger at you as far as fault or legality goes.

I am glad I was not singing along to the song on the radio in that video clip

    No worries... :)

FYI looking at the Amazon reviews, seems there's a big fly in the ointment for that dashcam in terms of the app requiring you to share your location with others if you use it? If true (I don't know personally, maybe OP can comment), that's a bit offputting even though I realize the probabilities of any negative impact are small; more a matter of principle.

Did you install the cam yourself or have a shop here in Phoenix do it? Curious who you had do the work...

I'm not sure how diminished value claims work. Never had to do that before, but I will most certainly be pursuing one. Even once repaired, the vehicle will now be scarred for life and I feel that I am entitled to some sort of compensation for that. Not to mention the time I will be spending to deal with it, aftermarket parts replacement, etc.

I keep mine in the glovebox and only put her up when I'm on longer road trips. Oldschool style just sticks to the window. Funny I haven't really been able to use it in the 3rd gen. Can't figure out why though :D;):stirthepot:

I did it. It was fairly easy, but admittedly it could be done cleaner. The headliner and some of the rubber gasket pieces around the doors just lift up fairly easily, so I just tucked the cords under that stuff and called it good. It works well enough for me - only exposed cords are about 3" from each camera body towards the headliner, and then about 6" for the cord that plugs into the cigarette adapter. That could be done cleaner too, I'm sure it's easy enough to hardwire, but I installed it after it started getting hot in Phoenix and I wanted to minimize my time outside..

Yeah, I very rarely use the radar around town either. It is nice getting advanced warnings of incidents when you're on a road trip though.

Yeah wow.. sorry to the OP and glad your OK - that could have turned out pretty bad if it was full on rear end.

That driver looking over his shoulder rearward and driving 90.. are you kidding. Eyes forward on the fucking road at all times. What's wrong with these people? It's not like he was a kid ...

Where I live I have to worry about people cutting me off from the passenger lane passing on the right with on coming traffic in the right lane... I've had to slam the brakes on @ 80mph for that truck almost loosing control. Talk about loosing my temper... I think the OP was extremely well controlled.

It's a truck ... everyone safe... truck gets fixed, rent a Tundra have the other driver pay. " I need a pick up for work".

And.... wait for it..... Plate Bumper FTMFW.

Do you guys that run dash cams take them down when you park? I would be worried about it getting stolen around here; car break ins happen all the time here in Houston. The front dash cam would be easy - pop off the radar detector, then pop off the front camera - but the rear camera would be a pain.

~As far as I know~, it only shares location if you use the cloud services features. I do not have that enabled.

I was also worried about that. I decided to chance it and see what happens. Windows are tinted so that helps a little, but my hope is potential thieves think it's a cheap camera and not worth their effort.

I have almost completely stopped using the radar detector since discovering Waze.

Driving at night it would still come in handy since there may not be a Wazer in front of you to mention speed traps in the vicinity.
