I have 2012 DCSB TRD Sport, 4x4, 6sd manual picked out, and am suppose to pull the trigger on the purchase Tuesday. I thought I had done plenty of research about the options I choose, however, I'm a bit hesitant on my new truck purchase (due to the manual transmission) after reading this thread:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/223962-toyota-bent-me-over-again.html

I understand that this is one unfortunate event, and not all manual owners have this experience. Can someone link me to a thread about manual transmissions on the 2nd gen's (I used the search function but didn't come up with anything to ease my mind). Has anyone had issues already with their 2012 manual?

I don't have any good input, but I am stoked for you to get the new truck!

    My two cents:

I had a squeaky clutch pedal issue at less than 10k kms. Nothing serious, just a plastic piece in the clutch pedal that needed lubricating. As far as I have seen, it is a rather common problem, and easily fixed. Just don't be surprised and get pissed off when you discover it.

a buddy of mine is getting a manual trans, i'm not worried about him having issues, they've been making this transmission since 05 now, I'm sure they've worked out some bugs.

I dont have a 2012, I have an 05 6 speed and I love it. Haven't had any major problems yet, and haven't experienced any of the problems others have. Maybe I got lucky:notsure:.

+1, Thats well put. My reasons for buying the manual are kinda embarrassing and somewhat unjustified, as I consider myself a conservative person. I would like the manual because it is more fun to drive and I have always wished I had gotten one in my first truck. More Control is a plus as well.

I like my 6 spd. I had to replace my T/O bearing, and installed the URD sleeve kit, but there was a redesign in 2011, so you should be ok.

Ratios are pretty close, I skip shifts often when empty. It's not sporty feeling like a civic for example, but it isn't a civic, is it? Take a good, long test drive in busy traffic if you can, and if you don't mind that, I wouldn't be scared off.

I have taken them for a test drive on many occasions and enjoyed it. No its not a civic haha, but I do plan on doing a few mods at the dealer such as short throw shifter, TRD exhust, TRD Intake Tuesday if all goes well. and maybe just maybe a SC in the near future to put the sport in TRDSport :D

Great Idea. It is one of the things I have written down as a list of demands/ questions when I go back to the dealership.

I just bought a 6 speed manual DCSB TRD Sport about 2 weeks ago (coming from an 05 automatic DCSB Tacoma). So far so good, although my sample size obviously isn't very large yet.

I was a little concerned when I saw the posts regarding the TO bearing and others, but was a bit re-assured to see that redesign had been done prior to the 2012 model year.

I shared your same concern, but in the end, pulled the trigger because I really liked the truck and really wanted to get back into a manual transmission.

I had never owned a 6 speed, but I find it pretty much drives like any of the 5 speeds I've owned, with basically an extra overdrive available...even though to be honest I wish 6th was geared to run at lower RPM's to actually help improve gas mileage.

Bottom line, so far I'm happy I made my choice.

Well thanks for the input TW, I know these "what if" questions are kinda silly. Bottom line, Tacoma's are badass trucks and I think i'll be happy with either an auto or manual. With that said if all goes well I'm gonna pull the trigger on the manual on Tuesday. I'll post pics :D

    I love my 6sp manual.

I've had not problems with the transmission to date....

If you do get the TRD CAI, Cat back and S/C you'll enjoy the 6sp all the more... I know :D
