Rears haven't been done... but I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to do those as well?! How hard is it?!

And no rush man. If anything I was only thinking about doing it once it's super nice out anyway, so we can figure it all out later. I was just wondering if you had done the fronts before, before I decided to just buy all the parts and then ask later. LOL

If you know what you're doing, which I sure as hell don't, I'm sure it is. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully Rich will say he can do it, no biggie, and then I can get to ordering the parts and have it all on hand to bang it out.

Nuno - I've done my front brakes (pads and rotors) a few times. Never touched the rear though or the brake lines for that matter. I have been meaning to have my rear brakes done. 10 years old with 180k. Fear I won't be able to get the drums off. My parking brake seizes up sometimes too so something needs to be done. So anyway, I could help you with the front brakes as long as they aren't seized up then I would be no help at all. Since they were just done though why are you doing them again so soon?

More urgently for me, I need to find this occasional grinding and hollow clunking noise. First I will be replacing the shocks all around. The current ICONs are so done. Maybe it's just my old shocks. Just waiting on the rear Fox's from Accutune to come in. Then if that doesn't do the trick I will see about LCA bushings and ECGS bushing and whatever else might be old and loose.

I wanted to do this "upgrade" because it looks and sounds like it'll give me more, better, whatever word describes it best, braking power and performance. To me it feels like ever since I slapped the cap on, the breaking hasn't been as good, even with just having the brakes re-done not that along ago. Then I came across this, and now I want to do it, cause you know... TW makes you spend money. LOL

You may want to amend your reply to an earlier thread I posted.

Your response------ No planned upgrades this year.

I didn't plan any this year for my truck but a closer look indicates new tires, battery and upgrading rotors and pads. I'm researching doing the slotted and x drilled rotors.
So no upgrades for me either, well maybe.

Is there anywhere in CT I can take my truck for some light off roading? I'm not looking to do any serious wheeling since the truck is still stock, but I want to see what the truck can do from the factory first. Thanks.

Before you start taking anything apart look at the pad thickness. I found I had plenty of life in my rears even with 120k miles last summer. I hit the assembly with break cleaner, repainted the drums and called it a day. I did change out the front pads and rotors with no problem myself! Just hang the caliper with a bungie to keep pressure off the brake line while you are swapping the rotors. It's an easy job

To help become accustomed to your truck's 4X4 features, including 4low, I recommend you take a drive on gravel roads in a CT State Forest. Clearly not Off-roading; although the experience would be a fun way to become acclimated to your truck.

Thanks for the suggestion! I looked it up and there are a lot of them around. Also can I just take my truck to any one of them and drive in it? I plan to spend today doing that since I don't have anything else going on.

If anyone want join me that'd be great!

The State Forest in Voluntown has lots of gravel roads, which are open to the public. Some areas, (hiking trails, etc.), are closed to motor vehicles; however, it will be very clear which areas are open to vehicles. The area around Green Falls Pond is especially nice. Here's a link:
    https://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?q=325068

The link will lead you to maps and other useful info.

Morning everyone. Happy Saturday. Da fuq is this white stuff doing on the ground?? I thought we were done!

Good to know, and good idea painting the rear drums. What did you do to paint them? Clean them up first? With what? And what kind of paint?

I went to Pachaug State Forest today. Too bad the trails are closed on Saturday. My GPS took me to Trail 2 and the entrance was closed. I ended up entering through Lee Rd. and ended up at the fork meeting Trail 2. I turned around because I didn't want to venture further on my own. The truck is completely stock so I didn't wanna risk it. Hopefully I'll be able to do more on another day.

Were the gravel service roads open ? Were you in the section of the forest near Green Falls Pond ?

Nope. There was a sign that said closed on Saturday. I went in through another road (Lee Rd.) that eventually lead up to Trail 2 (gravel). That was a [bad] choice. It was just full of mud, snow, and huge water filled potholes. At one point I went through a huge waterhole. The water level was above more than half of my wheels. I felt the car losing traction as I was going through it. I got lucky I made it out. I wouldn't wanna do something like that again alone. Longest mile of my life.

Is there any group around the region that do wheeling? It sucks going alone because I wouldn't know what to do if I'm stuck.

I was west of that. Just north of Pachaug Pond, by Hopeville Rd. (201) and Voluntound Rd.

There are many parcels of land that make up the Pachaug State Forest. I am not familiar with the section you are describing. Sounds like you made the right choice bailing when you did.

This is the area I was referring to. The roadways in the forest are gravel. A passenger vehicle with moderate clearance can travel on these roads.
Enter from Green Falls Rd. There is also a northern entry point from RT 138.
I am sorry that my advice, from earlier today, did not lead you to a pleasant experience.
