I got these parts sitting in my closet waiting for it to cool down so that I can install them. The blower motor resistor is what causes the fan speed issues. It might also be worth replacing the blower motor fan assembly itself if you are going to do the resistor. The blower motor gets noisy as it ages and makes a loud squeeking sound,most noticable at lower fan speed ironically.

@Cativelense go get your mower back. Bet it's in parts. Have him double check for the bits still on his bench. He'll give you all the bad motor parts & forget a transmission link or something you need.

On a happy lawn note - taking down those 4 trees, I now have 1/3 less lawn to mow. Not sure how they managed to completely eliminate all signs of grass (& daisies) with their trucks. But less mowing for me is always good. Going to have a good mud pit back there tonight.

 

Thanks all for the help with the fan blower resistor info. Big help. Last night on my way home I reached under the glove box and jiggled all the wires that I could feel which is where the resistor and connector are as described in the links you all shared. And voila back in action! I’ll try to get under there with a can of contact cleaner at some point and then move to replace the whole resistor if it becomes clear I can take the easy way out.

 

It's about an hour from me but always a nice trip when it's not 90 degrees out... Those ostriches freak me out though lol

Take a look at this thread explaining the issue with the resistor. Hitting it with your fist will only fix it for a little bit. Hitting with a hammer will fix it for a little bit longer but eventually the blower motor itself will end up drawing too much current and continuously pop even new resistors. It's a design issue with the blower motor aging. Toyota has the resistor wired so that it will only give you high speed with the blower so that there is minimal load going on to the resistor. You might get lucky and not have an issue with the blower motor itself for a long while. I've been dealing with the resistor issue for about a year and a half just hitting it with my fist.

Makes sense..I've not encountered it personally yet. See if it does it again and then go the route that Snake posted

 

If it takes 100k+ miles for that to become an issue it is fine with me. Seems small enough.

 

@Cativelense , it just occurred to me, you flipped your deck boards.
usually they are laid with the grain curving down to prevent cupping.
Wondering if you're getting any edges raising after a dry summer, boards flipped grain up.
Wondering if they lose that tendency at some point...

 

Not that I've noticed. I'll have to take a look tomorrow, just to make sure.
