Nope. I had it all setup. No insurance companies would insure it non-commercial so I put collector car ins on it through Hagerty to drive it home. Friday morning they let me know that they would not insure it if I were going to be towing with it.

So, the search continues. I was going to buy a square body dually yesterday but the guy wouldn’t allow me to use his plate to drive it home. He had a buddy who would tow it for only $1000 though...

I had another one a couple of weeks ago that I was going to fly to TX to buy. Guy decided last minute that he couldn’t sell it.

Another one in PA who listed a truck for sale but wasn’t ready to sell it for a few months.

I don’t know man. It seems like it’s impossible to buy an old dually.

Any reason you want an older dually tow rig? Those C70’s are brutes to drive and something as small as a Tundra would pull your Tacoma fine.

Its illegal to run someone elses plate. It is legal to drive a purchased vehicle home without plates. I drove one from ky to ks and was pulled over for it. Zero issues.

New York and Massachusetts I guess says you have to basically register immediately after buying. Illinois says you have 24 hours from purchase to drive on no tags before you have to register. Only reason I know is from being pulled over for no tags last month in upstate NY on my way home from Cape Cod to IL at 3am. Pleaded ignorance, showed my signed title and bill of sale and I was on my way again in less than 5 minutes with a friendly reminder to drive safe.

Made it the rest of the drive home and was never bothered again

Hi Tim @HolyHandGrenade, I know it's an old post but how did you secure the rigid to the bed of your taco??? I'm about to buy one for my first gen but don't know how to secure it against the always present thieves!!!

TBH, I don’t remember. I told another person that PMd me that I just strapped it down. I may have bolted it though.

If I were going to do it now, I would bolt it through the bed with plates on the bottom side to spread the load.
