Alright so I just got put some HID's on and i thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread for people some pics of where people mount their ballasts. I searched and couldnt find many pictures on where people were mounting their's.

    So let's see em!

I like the idea of this thread. I'm not particularly happy with the placement of my ballasts for my Headlights or Fogs. I actually need to reinstall one of the fog ballasts (replaced through warranty) and I was considering rewiring and relocating my HID set ups. Looking forward to getting a few ideas.

And you just use 3M tape? I did that for an install years ago and it failed. But it seems like everyone's go-to now. Maybe it's a better product now?

I used the industrial strength velcro at walmart. Works great for me. You can probably use zip ties or screws to screw it down

They were in the stock housing. After I adjusted them so I didn't blind people they weren't that great. A bulb burnt out and I just never felt that replacing the bulb was worth it haha

What kind of screws? Just self-tapping metal screws? Even tho it's a bad picture, I assume u couldn't get a wrench behind it.

Yeah self tapping screws. They're mounted on the sheet metal between the engine bay and the fender. So the other side is inside the fender. It holds tight though! I mounted the controller right in front of the ballast that you see there. The hardest part is getting a wrench or socket on the headlight adjustment screws. I use a 4mm socket on the adjustment screw w/ an extension

I have just purchased all the parts and new headlight assemblies to do a conversion to the Morimoto D2S V3.0 and I too am looking for locations that people have used for placement of the wiring harness and more importantly the ballasts. I was pretty sure I read that some folks attached the ballasts directly to the headlights using double sided tape or velcro. I would like to see any photos or suggestions on where this stuff was placed. I'm pretty anal about a clean looking installation so I may need to take apart the inside of the engine compartment to make it look nice and like factory, if that is possible. I was really hoping for a much simpler wiring harness without power connections to the battery.

So tomorrow I will split my new headlight assemblies apart and I will take a lot of photos. I will also take photos on my placement and what I used to do the installation. I'm not doing anything fancy, keeping it all chrome looking, no halos or LED lights added (I would like to add a nice bright string of LED lights to the inside to make DRL but I'm not sure what LEDs would be appropriate).

image.jpg There is a perfect flat spot on the side of the gen2 headlight housing for ballast. Fog ones and Hella retros are both mounted on the top and sides of the aluminum crash bar. All are mounted using 3M dual lock. With this it actually snaps into place, but can be removed if needed.

Are you talking the large flat spot in the inside (vehicle center line) next to the larger amber bulb? That was the only really good place I could see. I'd love to mount it with three screws but it appears the small screws would come right through the inside reflector area. Also I can see the velcro would facilitate easy access the the bulb should it need to be replaced.

Figured I would jump in now and show where I decided to mount things.

For the controller I bent top 90 degrees and drilled a hole, then used #10 screw and lock nut vinyl washer.20160814_160849.jpg 20160814_160822.jpg

For driver side ballast I snuck it in on the side by the battery. Started by using industrial velcro, but added a self-tapping metal screws for fun. Never going anywhere.

And for passenger ballast I drilled a hole and again used a #10 screw and lock nut nylon washer.

Pretty happy with it all. May take some slack out of all the leads someday if I am bored enough. Just to tidy it up some more.
