As has been already said HIDs in stock housing is a bad deal all. In Oregon you will eventually get a ticket, especially if you get those stupid blue tinted HIDs that are super popular with the rice and bro crowds.

Use halogens for your headlights and get some hid for fogs. I've had this setup for a very long time now and it works awesome. Only use your fogs when fogs are needed and no one will be blinded. As far as the manufacturer for my fogs, I couldn't tell you. Some cheap Chinese knock off but they've lasted for about 7 years now. No issues and uses stock wiring. No discoloration or burn wires.

These are all good options in my opinion.

I went with the first on the list, Philips VisionPlus +60. They are much brighter than stock. Don't really notice until you get out on a dark highway. They don't bother other drivers, as I never get flashed. High beams completely blew me away. Super bright and great down the road visibility. No blue tint (this was the primary reason I went with them). I also think they will have better longevity than others on the list.

No. I've done this before before I knew better, comparing before and after at a wall there is significantly more light above the cut off lines and outer perimeter that there is with a halogen bulb.

You and I were taking bulbs a couple months ago. If I remember correctly, I went through a couple sets of SS's but both sets I got at Walmart had flaws on the blue coating. Ha So I Ended up with the philips cause I got tired of driving all the way back out to Walmart. but I'll probably give the ultras another go. I do like that sharp white light.

I run hids in my taco and I love them but just for your info and motor vehicle that did not come factory with hids are not supposed to have hids. I would go with a led because leds are the most efficient type of light due to the high brightness and they operate a lot cooler than other bulbs and they don't take much power to run them so in the case you accidentally left headlight on the battery would not die near as fast as hids. I hooked up leds and turned them on and they only pulled .20v I did the same with hids and they pulled 2.65v. Hopefully something is helfull

I too was skeptical about opening up my housings but once you get the project done you'll wonder why you waited. The biggest PITA with the 2012-2015 is that you need to grind down the tabs on the projector's three pronged alignment washer to get the rotation correct as the 12-15 has the stock halogen bulbs offset at about a15 degree angle. You will need to put the projectors into the housings, reinstall the housings onto the truck without the lens, adjust the rotation, and lock them down. Then remove and re-bake the lenses back on. There are several tutorials about this on the forums. I would order some Morimoto Mini H1's or Mini d2s, a moto control, bulbs, ballasts, and get-er-done. The electrical is plug and play.

And they recommend the same setup I mentioned in my first post on page 1.

I too need more light on the road and am going the route of crashnburn80 with harness and Orsam Hyper 85w bulbs.

We are finding out (on some 2015 OR's) that the electrical system is conventionally switched.

My previous trucks were ground switched, but after installing the ground switched harness I had always used it did not work. Turns out my 2015 is conventionally switched. I'm not sure when the change was made. I posted the test procedure here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/highbeams-negative-or-positive-switched.397465/#post-11007455

I also added the same note with an edit to my earlier post about them being ground switched so others don't make the same mistake.

I maybe wrong but I believe the head lamps are relayed they have been for many years the little turn switch on the signal lever is not enough to handle the head light load all of my older Toyota pickups all had relayed lights. I'm too lazy in the morning to go have a look but I'll bet there is a relay for the head lamps.
