these ARE HID bulbs adn projectors...so not sure exactly what your asking. these are better than the PNP crap kits that certain venders sell here for 50-80 or whatever. this uses the HID bulb inside a projecter, therefore focusing the light properly, rather than throwing a HID bulb inside a reflector housing that is designed for a halogen bulb.

^ yes, camrys and mazda3s, and im sure many other cars, come w/ halogen projectors. but there is no point for a halogen projector if youre retrofitting anyways, might as well go HID projector since your taking the time to retro...

No, I know I was just wondering cuz I kept seeing cars with projectors. But the light output wasn't great.my uncles camry. A new for fusion. Had projector fogs too

Yeah the Fusion PJ fogs made me go WTF, but its probably a halogen in there.

If your gonna go Big, gotta do the Bulbs and Ballasts right.

This bulb is a D2S bulb running at 30W. There is a ballast in there that "drives" the bulbs.
So it is actually brighter, better focused, and uses less energy than my stock headlamps.

One thing I did notice is that the HID kit is interfering with my stock OTA radio (AM and FM only. Aux and iPod and CD are still money). Need to get some isolation capacitors in there I bet. I will post up how to do that once I figure out how the guys at HID planet take care of that.

Wiring is close to idiot proof. Don't be scared. If you can hook up a TV you can do this.
The retrofitsource gives you an awesome harness that takes care of everything, highbeams, low beams, ballast power, you name it. The ONLY difficult part of wiring the headlamps is finding a place for each ground connector on the harness (the harness could be a bit longer).

OTA - Over the Air. When my headlamps are on, a ballast converts DC voltage form my battery to a high voltage AC (becasue HID's work on AC).
So there is a slight issue when my headlamps are on and I am listening to my factory radio, I get noise feeding back into the radio through the truck's ground plane.
Turn off the lights and the noise is gone.
There is a simple fix for it, but I haven't gotten around to figuring it out, cause I don't drive every day (live on College Camps) and when I do drive at night I just listen to my iPod or Satellite radio.

It might also be an artifact of my ballasts. Either-way, its a small issue for me.

I named my truck after one of the Golden Girls...Blanche. muhahahahahaha
I can't wait to see the night shots. My left front bulb just went out...time to replace.

I'd rather no halogen, then again...I need to research and see what I can do out here in SoCal to avoid fix it tickets. meh.

Bump for first post update. (begins at [Final Update]).
I am in the process of getting a new Tacoma, and well, can't get these headlamps back. But that is ok!!
I'm still open to answer any questions.

    Sorry, didn't see this.
I never got a chance to get difference pics, or output pics, because I replaced this tacoma with a 2011, and let the headlamps go with the old one.
But the results are typical of what you see at hidplanet and are very nice.
I plan to do this mod again on my 2011. (maybe then I wil get some good comparison shots)

also a conversation I just had:

In order to do this retro I had to remove the stock bulb shrouds. This required some metal tab bending. So that is probably reversible.

So no modifications were made to the actual housings in this version of the mod.

So yes, I believe it is possible to return them to stock.

Do what I did, buy a set of headlights off here and run them while you mod yours.

Wiring from TRS is plug in play. If you give me 10 minutes and the right wrench, your back to stock no problems at all.
