I just got one of those blue/black box ones but I haven't installed/tested it yet.

The first ones I got (the ones with the yellow insulation from ebay) burned through and probably could have started a fire.

Be sure they don't get hot.

btw, has anybody heard of way to defeat/bypass the load/error sensor so that these resistors aren't needed?

You would need to get into the ECM and either tweak the hardware or the software to fix it. Most people don't have that knowledge and people that do (like me, a Computer Engineer) don't see the point in spending so much time with no reward ($ for the time put in).

Also, the LED headlights I tried were a safety hazard so I went back to halogens.

That makes sense. I was hoping it would be an analog relay or something.

from my memory, when I was in that position I remember everything being inside the ECM or another box that does the logic. The details of the innards of these is not published and to reverse engineer would take time.

I am opposed to load resistors because part of the reason to use LEDs is to use lower power. Having to out in a load resistor just create unnecessary heat and continues to waste power and draw from the electrical system (and battery when off).

    Check out my build
I know, old. But I figured out why my indicator light didnt work, even when using one of those ebay loads.

Apparently the indicator isnt directly wired to the high beam (ie high beam on, indicator on). It works on a resistance system and that ebay load adds resistance to allow the indicator to work. Problem with my set up was I didnt have enough resistance even with that load because the cluster/dash bulbs are also in that resistance circuit. I am currently running LED dash bulbs and they dont have enough resistance (even with the ebay load) to make the indicator light up. So after an enormous amount time frigging with everything I noticed if I put a couple stock 194 bulbs in line with the HID harness the indicator would work.

So the fix (for me) was either swap my cluster/dash bulbs back to stock 194s (not happening) or add a few in line under the hood. Now everything works and I have a little bit of "diagnostic" light under the hood when the high beams are on.

    HID, Roof mount Spots,
I finally got my high beam indicator to work! I purchased 2 load resistors 6ohm/50watts. You have to wire one between the low and high beam wires (the vertical spades)and another between the horizontal connector and the high beam. You only have to do the passenger side. Hope this is helpful.

I found a fairly economical way to solve this issue. I purchased a pair of H4 wiring extensions from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NYH9YE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, cut them in two, and spliced two females to one male. You just plug one of your old bulbs into the second female plug, and presto, indicator is back working. I put mine on the drivers side, put the bulb into an old 6 oz V8 juice can and tucked it through a hole out into the fender cavity, out of the way, and no strange lights under the hood. $10 and a little time to solder it together. My kind of fix! And I have a spare bulb for the future.

In addition to the above issues High Beam Indicator not working and automatic shutoff. What did you all do with the boots that keep moisture from getting in the lens bodies as they are not useable with the new LEDs?

I trimmed the boots as best I could to fit the LED's. Not perfect, but better than nothing at all. So far, so good, but just now getting into the wet season.

How is working now that the thread is a little only. I need to do something about my lights as I have the same problem as everyone else. I found this exact product online but it says that it is a kit and will come with 2?? I assume I only need 1? seems weird they would send 2 if only 1 is needed. Thoughts anyone?? Thanks!!

    It’s essentially a big resistor

That's not cool. Definitely do not want to burn my truck down lol. My only issue is that for PA inspection that will be flagged if it is not working and the possibility of it not passing is large just due to that (or so I have heard at least). I know I can just change out lights before inspection but I have a 97 so taking the grill off is a pain plus the front bumper of mine is smashed a little making everything that much harder. If possible I need a solid solution that will allow me to just leave it how it is and make the light work. I do not mind that is doesn't work. It never bothered me. I am just afraid of inspection. Suggestions??
