You can use one of these, they only get hot when the lights are on anyways.
They just plug inline, so it’s just a minute to remove or plug in

The high beam indicator is in series with the low beam filament. When low beams are on, the headlight switch directly grounds the low beam filament and the voltage difference across the high beam indicator in zero so it's off. With headlight switch is in high beam position, low beam filament is no longer grounded and current runs through low beam filament then through the high beam indicator light.

The point is the LED headlights (low beam) don't allow enough current through (higher resistance) to light the high beam indicator. I wonder if putting an LED in the cluster would work by matching the higher resistance.

I'm reviving this thread because just installed HID projector retrofit lights on my truck and I have this same issue.

Everything works as it should, but no indicator on the dash. My led light bar, which I have connected so that it comes on with my high beams, doesn't work the same as it did before the upgrade, but it's switched so easy to turn on if needed.

Will a resistor work? Do I need a extra large one, or will a couple watts work? I got the truck back together and the lights aimed properly, but would like the indicator to work right.

Oh yea don't run led or HID lamps in reflector housings please. Don't be a jerk.

Install one of these on the passenger side wiring harness and it should. Just make sure it doesn’t get too hot tho

Thanks for the info! I purchased one of these from the same place you suggested, installed it on the passenger-side headlight harness and it worked perfectly! 10 minute install and now my high beam indicator works again. I love the LED headlight upgrade now.

That resistor will get hot AF, consider mounting it somewhere to help dissipate the heat and prevent it from burning anything that touches it. I used some 1” aluminum bar stock and fashioned this in about 30 minutes.

In 2018 I certainly agreed but these days? Not so sure. I have a set that have very sharp 'cutoff' in the proper pattern for a USA DOT headlamp. I have never seen a LED that did that before, not even close. But I am not sure I like them in Oregon this time of year though. The LEDs are just too white to provide good illumination in mist/fog and snow at night on country roads.
