My truck is doing the same thing; high-pitched ringing like rubbing a wet finger on the rim of a glass. Driving me and my dog nuts. It occurs at different speeds (~20, 40, 60mph) usually when the truck is warm, particularly when traveling uphill. Dealer is playing dumb. Please help!!!

Are all the folks having this issue driving MT's? Also own a 2018 OR MT and have such a loud whistle my father in law thinks the phone is ringing.... It does sound like it's in the driveline somewhere.

I have 2018 Tacoma TRD 4x4 offroad double cab. I had whistle sounding on the driver side window above 40 mph. I went to Toyota dealer to check out and they told me that it is normal wind noise.
I found a posting on other thread and found out that that sound is coming from driver side mirror. The sealing on the mirror is not complete and the air is going inside of the base of the mirror mounting and escaping from the rear side of the mirror base and causing a high pitch whistle sound.
I taped mirror's base and the sound is gone. I didn't take back to the Toyota dealer and explain what is the cause of the sound and try to fix it. I just fixed it by myself. I use silicone sealer around the base and place the small rubber tube back of the mirror base. You can find a picture of how to fix it here.

I just purchased a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 2x4 leftover. I have this high pitched whistle. It will occur mostly around 18k to 22k RPM. It will occur at higher speeds as well. It is an actual whistle. I can whistle myself and imitate the pitch and tone. It will last a few seconds and goes away. It can occur while accelerating before it goes into 4th gear. At higher speeds, as the OD drops RPM back to 18-22k, it will occur. Occasionally, it can happen at a higher RPM. I have searched the web and read all kinds of descriptions and symptoms and not totally satisfied with answers. I went to my dealer and spoke with a Toyota specialist that also works with corporate on recall issues. He explained the whistle is actually the expansion valve in the AC system. Even when the AC is off, the expansion valve can fluctuate and make the whistle sound. Toyota corporate has decided at this time, that this particular issue is being treated as normal. I was told, Toyota has received several cases across the US for this issue. I was told, I would have to wait until Toyota comes out with a fix. Nothing is being done at this time.

My whistling noise is high pitched and occurs while accelerating at around 30 to 40 mph and only lasts a second. Any advice?

my 17 trd or dc just started making a noise similar to this... it actually sounds like a a high pitch spooling noise of some sort. It comes on at 60+ mph and gets louder when gear drops, so I dont think its wind related as it stops when switching back to high gear. I'm hoping is not a leak or gasket failure on the top end.... any thoughts?

I have a 2020 TRD OR DCSB with 6MT that makes a similar ringing noise. I consistently hear it when I'm going 48-49 mph, and it's most obvious when I'm cruising in 5th or 6th gear. It's not audible when accelerating or decelerating through those speeds, and it's not present at any one particular engine RPM.

I confirmed using tape that it's not my driver door seal or mirror. I had a 2016 Limited POS that made all those noises, along with the LCA whistle. This is more high pitched. I recorded the sound and ran a FFT on it. I was able to isolate the noise I'm hearing ~900Hz. Here's a pic of the peak, and link to the audio file.

To me it sounds like a resonance in the drivetrain but I have no evidence. I'll update if I make any progress.

My 2020 ORSB has the whistle/howl in the front end. There are 2 plugs in the LCA.I taped over the third hole and noise went away.I had the truck in to the dealer today and they performed the TSB.Driving home I noticed the howl again. When I got home I crawled under the front end and noticed they plugged a different hole than I had taped.According to the TSB they plugged the correct hole.In the TSB they specifically say not to plug the incorrect holes..I wonder what the repercussions would be,poor water drainage etc...?

I have the high pitch whistle that SparkyTacoma has in post #43 on my 1 week old double cab, off road. Dealer could not isolate the noise. I found this post after trying painters tape everywhere. Taped off the mirror and it disappeared. I will likely bring back to the dealer to fix so they have a record of this problem. Don’t think I could have lived with this very high pitch annoyance.

Thank you for posting this fix!
