So I guess this is the 100,000 km summer.. all the problems start happening.

I have a "peeping" noise coming from passenger side engine seems deep in the engine bay. Its definitely not the serpentine belt or idler pully's. It sounds like a small bird. The noise follows the revs of the engine and sometimes changes sounds when I release load off the truck by putting in the clutch. It doesn't appear to be the clutch either I just had it on the hoist at the driveline shop where my clutch was replaced 2 months ago.

I will post a video later when I get the truck back. Just trying to inform myself before taking it to another mechanic shop.

    Thanks

It sounds IDENTICAL to the High Pressuer Fuel Pump noise. I had it on the hoist at the shop where they replaced the clutch and they said it's not the clutch or TOB.. what makes you think that?

When you said it changes when you release / press the clutch. I had that same issue with another vehicle that was a 5 speed. Sounded like a chirping sound and changed when the clutch pedal was pressed, taking the load off the throwout bearing. just my .02

I thought the same thing that's why I brought it back to the transmission shop but it's not directly connected to the clutch per se it's more like when the load on the vehicle changes by shifting gears or engaging the clutch the loud peeping noise lessens a bit. I will post a video of the noise later when I get the truck.

    Thanks!

Everyone with a manual taco claims they never have a clutch issue, that its the guys with autos doing all the whining.

You try running premium ethanol-free gas?
Mine chirps consistently, the handful of times I've used 87 E10 and goes away immediately, when I put in 91 E0.

I just received a letter from Toyota today saying they’re replacing the HPFP for free if it smells like gasoline in the engine bay, may want to make yours smell like gasoline and get it replaced for free

They will do it free if your vin number claims you have one of those pumps in the truck that are noted to be troublesome.

They replaced mine under warranty. It only smelled like gas after they finished. I had to take it back and they tightened up a hose. Looks like OP may be out of warranty at 100k. It's definitely the HPFP.

I will try this but from what I have read about the HPFp failure is the metal in the pump gets worn down by fuel and some spring starts to let go and begins to make the chirp.

I can't believe how expensive this part is though.

Yea I'm way out of warranty and the extended warranty upgrade is basically toyota saying they recognize a consistent problem will replace under warranty but out of warranty it's only to cover their ass because it could become dangerous to the driver.

So I've brought the truck to a mechanic who confirmed its the HPFP with a stethoscope. Toyota Canada is unwilling to help me at all with the part even though it's clearly an issue that should be a recall. They are asking $2700 Cad. For the part plus installation labor.

First question: is anybody able to find this part cheaper in the US or Canada?

Second question: I've seen a used HPFP available but I'm a little nervous that a used one would cause me problems similar to what I am experiencing now. Ie. Bad spring.

    Thanks very much!!

Welcome to Direct injection … basically a diesel system and big money . Really wish Toyota didn’t go with a DI engine. Just wait till the 4 th gens come out if you wanna see big repair bills . DI and turbocharged. Good luck out of warranty .

    Stock for now
That sounds normal to me they are pretty loud typically. Has the truck had issues starting or running If you're not having problems I wouldn't mess with it. (not broke don't fix it)
