What's going on with these Tacomas. Are they just doing poor assembly and QC at the plant. I see nothing but major issues on 3rd gens on TW.

Bear in mind that you're seeing a few hundred complaints, it seems like a lot because complaints and issues make up a good percentage of the posts here, but when you compare that to the number of Tacomas that are on the road, it's nothing. Rolls-Royce and Porsche have issues too...

Yes, have Toyota check the block for cracks or leaks and check the coolant pump. The gurgling could be air/exhaust gas bubbles in the system. A coolant system pressure check will probably surface issues.

Replace thermostat. Only because it appears to be questionable.

Replace coolant. Don't mess about with the unmixed stuff. Its too easy to screw the mix up. Just buy the pre-mix. It should be good to -35F or lower.

Last point, check to be sure the front of the radiator is clear of debris. Very easy to gather road litter like plastic bags, leaves, newspapers....... Remove anything blocking the air flow thru the radiators. Depending on your truck, there maybe several coolers in front with the radiator. A/C, tranny, oil........

I dressed my Taco up with cardboard in front of the grill and the drive on the highway was fine a -8F, so I am still leaning towards bad coolant mix and freezing in radiator at high speeds and low temps but don't know how the coolant goes bad at 35,000 miles.
Dealer is checking for combustibles in the coolant and leaks in rear of block right now.

My '14 taco had oil leak from head in first 100 miles of ownership. Shop associate was in disbelief until he crept under truck and got burned by hot oil drip. Truck was bombproof other than that, I think we only hear about issues, nobody complains about great running vehicles.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Ain't that the truth.
Folks are quick to bitch in writing, but slow to praise in writing.
I love my '06 TRD OR - sad to see it head to a new owner.
Still getting used to my '21 TRD OR - a lot has changed. Some good stuff, some stuff I'm finding difficult to adjust to. But nonetheless I'm anticipating a long and happy experience overall.
