Some pics from today. We might be slow as hell when we work, (crazy schedules, taking care of kids, etc) but eventually we get stuff done. And we always spend forever cleaning parts.

Robert's wife wanted it purple, so we painted it purple.

Permatex valve grinding compound. Works great. Yeah, the pressure is just from pulling back on the drill. Works great! No light shines through when the valves are closed, and it passes a leak test too.

Gotcha, that pretty cool to see engine being brought back to life. I use Permatex too (easy to just buy in Autozone) but I use fingers, I like the drill idea but I would try running from the piston side to keep pressure on it too.
Do you use any polish paste after using Permatex? or only Permatex?

Same reason we buy it. Our local Advance carries it.
We wipe them down afterwards and then kerosene bathe em to get any last little bit of the compound off. The head gets the same treatment once all valves are done. Dunk it and clean it. Then things actually start going back together.

I lied. Not as pic heavy as I thought this post would be. Most of the pics are of the same shit over and over again from different angles. :D

Stonewall keeping the 4runner that is awaiting his rebuild company.

Valve covers primered. Now trying to decide whether to paint em white like originally indended, or see if we can find a gray akin to the color of the primer, because we really like that.

    White or primer?

Yeah, I like it better, too. Hopefully Robert's wife likes it better too, since it's her truck. She's the mega decider.

Plus, I am scared of the idea of white valve covers. They will show every little speck of dirt or grease.

Well, Robert's wife decided she wanted white valve covers.

    Now for a picture dump!

Spent most of the weekend working on getting this thing closer to being done, at least when I wasn't mowing yards and stuff. :D

    She's in there!

Realistically, we could have this thing running tonight, but we can take a little break. Been a long, exhausting weekend of work.

You need more posts in this tread! It is cool seeing how you guys fixed an engine without taking it to a shop to get machining done.
