I'm not sure what else you could do short of glueing the lid shut and blocking any drain holes in the bottom, but then you won't be able to get to the filter

It's not going to be waterproof with the stock filter box honestly. It will be much more splash resistant and the engine won't sucky water nearly as quickly. To make a waterproof intake you gotta go custom. 61e5431fdd553f3d4f30ab4cf64e2a45_94ffb2c9c26e7fde7565d86f5c0a5f5c1082fdfc.jpg

I am fairly certain mine seals.....but it might not too. Very hard to seal something like that.

Damn, I figured all you would need to do is put silicone on the drain holes on the bottom of the air box and seal the tube that goes from the air box to the fender. Then the snorkel connection is a rubber coupling and that would hold out water for sure. My AFE air filter is rubber on the outside of the filter and when I clamp my filter box down with the filter in it definitely seems pretty water tight/water resistant.

Edit: also if you are getting deep enough to submerge you air box (water up to the hood/covering the hood) there are a lot of other places that the water will/may go. Into the cab, into the gas tank, all of the breathers (trans, Tcase, front diff) also what about the distributor/coil packs?

Snorkel is best for short water crossings/splash protection. If you are looking to turn your truck into a submarine, you have a lot more work to do.

This is the truth. Mostly it's di-electric grease on electrical stuff but sealing cabin filters and other pass through items would get hard really fast lol. Never seen a 4runner rigged for submersion but that would be one big breather assembly.

A submarine truck would be really cool though....

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437438456.891001.jpg. Got the snorkel installed this weekend. $150 parts and labor!

I didn't notice any drain holes in the ram air top attachment, is this normal? I thought I had read/seen about something to help prevent the water from going down the tub in heavy rain?

I'm hoping to get a pre-filter, but will be a while before it gets shipped over here.

Congrats! Do you have the same issue that I have with it sucking closed? And I don't believe there are any drain holes on the snorkel anywhere

Nope I haven't had any issues yet, auto v6 4x4. They had a really difficult time installing the rubber tubing. Used a lot of silicone to help lube it on and then to help the seal before using the hose clamps.

I haven't had a chance to really put it through a thorough test though. I have to get out of the city to go over 30 miles an hour. :)

Get out on the highway and floor it and see what happens. Let the rpm's get all the way up.

I had a really difficult time with the rubber hose as well. I had to boil it to get it on.

I'll try to post figment pictures tomorrow. There is definitely a gap on the lower portion because of the fender flaring out a bit. But not too noticeable when not looking for it. I saw one other Tacoma here that used black silicone to ease the gap a bit, looked ok as it wasn't shiny, but I'm just going to leave it.

I wonder how the fitment would be on glass.

You mean where it attaches at the pillar by the windshield?

No i mean on a fiberglass fender. It will rise/flair more and the gap may not be as bad.
