Sorry forgot to mention.. now that your running your sub amp at 2 ohm and getting all that extra power, you are over the RMS rating of your sub, so you should back your gains down, or re-run the setting procedure on the sub amp again. It's easier usually to blow a sub with too little power than too much, but if you have the gains to high, you will have the potential for too much power - so use it wisely, or you may make the magic smoke come out of your sub :)

and yeah i turned the gain down to be safe while messing with it :)

no, they jus double up the terminals for convienience ... both sets are connected together inside the amp.. so you can run one wire direct from each to the terminals on the subs, or jump them on the sub (same way I said in the post above) - either way will get the same job done... one will just cost you more in wire, but does help down the road for diagnostics, amp changes etc etc - not a biggey either way.

hmm interesting...good to know!. I'll stop messing with that the cabling at the amp side then. :)

Do you by chance know where I can buy a bass/gain controller with an rj-11 connection? are these things universal? :(

also..when is it considered to be getting "too much power".. when its not hitting cleanly and sounding distorted/horrible?

Yep, when the sound "Changes" you will hear it.. play something clean and turn the volume up one notch at a time. You will hear it, when you do turn it down one notch and it will sound "clean" again. I would venture to say that every stock headunit out there on any vehicle will clip at some point - you want to set your deck to the point just before clipping to set your gains. In theory once you set your gains at that point, you shouldn't really want/need to go about that on the deck. But like I say.. most people want to be able to go to "11" :)

Alpine 9887...full tilt and no clipping; but I agree it's very rare :D

Ya there are several aftermarkets from different companies that won't clip - like I said - most stocks will :)
