Anybody else notice Toyota is putting Hitachi shocks on the TRD Sport instead of the Bilsteins? I looked at two yesterday and only the Offroad version has Bilstein shocks. Felt like the Hitachi shocks are not nearly the same ride quality as the Bilsteins. Toyota cutting corners again or has this been going on for awhile?

Always thought TRD and Bilstein were supposed to be synonymous. The Hitachis felt very stiff and bouncy in the 2016 TRD Sport DCSB I test drove yesterday. Definitely would opt for the TRD Offroad on the 2016. Test drive both and see what you think, curious to hear other opinions between the TRD Sport and Offroad versions.

Suspension wise: What are the other differences between the Off Road and the Sport? Springs? Bushings? Anything besides the shocks?

I test drove a 2016 TRD Sport yesterday, and compared to my new 2015 TRD Sport I believe the suspension feels better on the 2016. The Toyota Bilsteins on the TRD Sport are bottom of the barrel Bilsteins.

Wait I thought that the TRD sport doesn't come with Bilsteins.

    On the Tacoma Brochure:
    SR & SR5 basic suspension and wheels/tires
SR5 -> Sport you get sport tunned suspension, diffrent wheels
Sport -> Off Road you get Bilsteins, diffrent wheels
Limited same suspension as the SR5 but Michelin tires, bigger wheels

He was referring to the Bilsteins on his 2015 TRD Sport. Older TRD Sports and TRD Off-Roads came with the Bilsteins, this changed for 2016.

    Just the basics
Sports have always been tuned differently than the offroads. I'm not surprised to hear they are putting different shocks on the sports. As was noted the bilsteins used are not the top of the line. Really depends onthe use of the vehicle.

I think the Offroad has the softer 4 pack and all the rest have the stiffer 3 pack

    But I'm probably wrong

My sport had a bit of a bounce to it. The ride was still great though. After putting a toytec level kit on it, it's perfect.

    THIS

A sport driven in sweepers and off ramps had far less body roll with the Hitachi's as my 15 TRD with the Bilsteins.
I am glad toyota realized what a "Sport" ride is supposed to be on road. Not Off Road.

Totally agree with this statement. My son has an 08 sport that I got to drive once. (even though I paid for most of it) it seems to wallow around more in turns than 3gen sport. Was discussing the same thing with the salesman during a test drive at Beaver Toyota last weekend. He agreed and went a little crazy on some turns during one of the test drives we went on to prove it. Hell, I had to pester him to even let me drive the truck myself lol. He wanted to drive both trucks most of the test loop himself. Found myself wanting a TRD off road with sport suspension. Hence, I am thinking of not doing anything till the PRO comes out.

My test drive was the same........I noticed right away the stiffer suspension in the off and on ramps. BRAVO Toyota

The SR5/Limited is soft in comparison..My 15 had Bilsteins. They were soft as well made to suck up the rough roads. Along with the 16" wheel and larger sidewall
