Does anyone use one of these or think it’s a good idea to use one with the intent of rear end protection? Are there any in particular you’d recommend? I’m also curious about the bars for the front end as well.

When I was rear ended with the car directly behind me, the factory trailer hitch was enough to damage the car and leave my truck untouched.

When I was rear ended with the car off to the side, the bumper took the brunt and the trailer hitch was untouched.

I imagine just leaving in your tow receiver with a ball will be enough for most cases.

Just be careful with this, sometimes leaving a hitch in provides for a more direct impact and will cause MORE damage to your frame if you are rear ended. Sure, it protects your bumper from those parking lot, parallel parking taps, but in a rear end, it could total your vehicle

I did just this last week. I put one of those Curt "three balls and a hook" stingers on mine. Added benefit of actually making the truck ride better with the added weight. No intent of every towing anything, pure damage control. I live in Puerto Rico, this is a must have mod...LOL

I have driven in Puerto Rico; you ain't lying! The only place worse that I have experienced is Naples Italy. They completely ignore traffic lights / rules there.

Yeah, and people will knock the bumpers right off your truck trying to parallel park. LOL.

It's not that heavy, but just that little added weight makes a huge difference when going over bumps. Immediately noticeable when I installed it.

I really don't know much about the "bumpers". I was just looking for something to "back off" the aggressive drivers around here. You'll probably need an anti-rattle device. Mine made a lot of noise without it.

I find this hard to believe... And by hard I mean impossible. Unless you've had your ass calibrated to ASTM standards.

Those options will offer protection to a point and increase risk of frame damage after that is exceeded.

So the question is 'do you feel lucky?'

so I’m feeling like my best bet is just a regular ball hitch like the guy above posted. Hopefully keep people back and do more damage to their vehicle if they hit me.

Personally, my shin has taken more hits when I've left a ball in any of my hitches, so I never leave them in any more if I'm not towing.

I always leave my tow hitch in. If they hit me hard enough to bend the frame oh well
