Hey all, this is my first post!

I came across some $350 rock sliders homemade by someone 2.5hrs drive from me. Would you purchase these? I'm not sure if I trust this guys welding abilities, and I don't know if I want to make a 5+hr commitment for something I'm not sure on.

I also have a 3rd gen DCSB, so I believe these should fit? They're bolt-on.

    These are some pics.

    Thanks for your responses!

For $350, sounds like a decent enough deal. For the most part, even a bad weld will still be super strong. Ask him for a close up of some of the welds.

However, if he has the tooling to make those and bend the tube then I would venture to say that his welding abilities are good enough for rock sliders.

They look ok, but if unsure.... wait until you have to go that direction to go look so you aren't just going out there for him and possibly wasting time.

That's what I thought. I gave a call to both CBI offroad and BAMF, and they both told me that a bolt-on set of sliders for a 2nd gen won't line up on a 3rd gen. Is this true? I think they're a pretty decent deal, but I ended up telling the guy that I couldn't drive that much for something that wont fit.

Thanks man! I lurked here long enough to decide I need an account haha, there have been too many threads I wanted to post in.

True and untrue from BAMF and CBI. The holes on the frame are much the same from 2nd to 3rd gen so holes will line up. The easy problem is that on a 3rd gen there are a couple of boxes with wire harnesses that go to them that may have to be relocated or a couple holes through the slider bracket might need to be drilled so the that factory bolts can pass through. The main problem is that the rear side of the front cab mount on a 3rd gen is angled substantially farther back towards the frame that you have to account for that on the main tubing so it doesn’t bump into the cab mount.

The sliders that I build bolt on the same way from 2nd to 3rd gen but I angle my main square tubing back so it doesn’t hit into the rear of the cab mount if that makes sense. Here is a picture for you of a set of mine that I build. Look at the front of the main square tube how it’s angled back. If the guy who fabbed them was willing to cut back at an angle and plate it then I feel like they would line up and fit for you. I could be wrong though

Very interesting, and your sliders look sweet! CBI offroad guy warned me about the holes not matching up. He pushed me a bit toward getting some sliders that are specifically designed for 3rd gens as opposed to risking it + wasting gas and money. The guarantee is worth the few extra hundred bucks it'd cost to purchase them from Amazon or wherever, but with that guarantee that either way they'll fit. A plus is that I live 45 minutes away from CBI so I may purchase some and go get them in person.

If you were me, and seeing as you have the same amount of info I have (regarding these used sliders), would you actually purchase these and risk it to potentially save a few hundred bucks?

    Thank you.

I wouldn’t to save a couple hundred bucks. Unless I saw how the used sliders mounting brackets looked, then I couldn’t really tell you and it would be a risk for sure for someone who doesn’t have the means to fabricate or modify them to make them work nicely. I guess all I’m trying to say is the way that I do my sliders, which is more simple as far as mounting goes, they line up the same for 2nd and 3rd gens. BAMF and CBI have bad ass full frame length mounting brackets so that’s probably why theirs are different between 2nd and 3rd gen.

If I actually planned on using them at some point. I think I would pass and get what I really want and know what is goin to fit and stand up to the beating I am going to put on them.

I'll have to agree with you there, as I fall under the category of a person without the means of fabrication. In the end, a few hundred bucks is a days work, so it'd be worth it for that security.

I agree! One huge thing in my opinion is also using them as a sort of, step up for my pregnant wife and future kids. While these look cool, I definitely want something with a plate overneath them or through them, similar to Shmellfab's sliders, so no ankle-breaking happens haha

I gotta say folks, I really appreciate your quick responses! Thank you for the advice as well.

Using them for a step is a matter of angle. 0 degree upto 25.
The less the angle the better the step.

    How is that angle measured?

Basically 0 angle is where the sliders are parallel to the bottom of the truck and then as you increase the angle upwards they start angling up towards to the door. 0 angle is great for utilizing them as steps

Thank you so much!!! In a few months I'll be doing 8 months worth of training for the Army, so I'm helping my wife prepare so she'll be able to handle everything on her own, as she'll have to..
