I had the same problem. They had to hold my truck when they ordered the cluster to ensure the odometer was programmed with the proper mileage for legal reasons. They can't just put the miles on the unit when it shows up I guess and there maybe some paperwork that has to be filed for DMV purposes. No idea. Anyway yeah just another joyous trip to the dealer for fix and repair!

Looking on the positive side OP, it won't be a daily fixer upper

OP, how often did your tach do the ticking? I just noticed the same thing and the truck is almost to 5,000 miles. Truck seemed to be running and shifting fine (ha!). Stopped and started the engine at a stop light and it was back to normal. Guess I'll schedule a service date. Yippee.

It was happening literally within the first thousand miles and would happen at least 20-30% of the time. I'm at 5,000 miles now and things seem to be better after replacing the cluster although the steering wheel now rubs against the housing lol

Still having the problem? Bringing mine in for a third combination meter said to have a reengineered part to make the tachometer work properly...not convinced it'll fix it.

On the hood issue - save yourself a headache with a bad mismatched dealer paint job, mis alignment, and all the other dealer hassles and fix it in 5 minutes yourself for 6$ >>> 2016 trd off road hood recall?

Yes, still having the problem. I just moved to North Carolina and the Toyota dealerships I have went to are horrible. They won't fix anything, even if there is a TSB

What part of NC are you in? Just had my 5k service done on my 2017 SR5 and I believe I have the hood issue going on. Already though I can tell I wont like dealing with Toyota of North Charlotte.

Which dealership in Raleigh, I bought my truck from Hendrick Toyota of Apex and need to take mine in for the tach issue. Expecting a fight since it doesn't happen all the time and i'm certain they'll just say they can replicate issue and send me on my way.

I went to Fred Anderson. I wouldn't recommend them because every time I would pick my truck up, they wouldn't even go over the paperwork (what they saw, what they fixed, etc). I actually walked back in after leaving the parking lot and asked to go over the paperwork and they literally pointed to the "amount due" and said there was no charge lol. No kidding, its a brand new truck

Fred Anderson sucks big donkey dicks. They have lied to my face before so I never go there. Check out Mark Jacobson Toyota instead. They will try to help you the best they can.

Got my third combination meter put in, no issues yet but it did only seem to happen when it was warmer outside.

My tachometer did the same thing at 2k after a 14 hour drive. dealership said they can't replicate the issue even though I showed them the video of it! I' at 50k now having done it since.
Another dealership replaced my hood for the vibration it' all good now

I wonder if it's all part of the computer "learning" driving habits? I don't know!? Miss my 98 sometimes. Finally starting to like the truck after 10k I guess.
