Looking at getting some hood struts for the Tacoma, have any of you out there added this and could recommend some to me?

How difficult or not is it to install them? Thanks..!

I did the redline kit, not hard at all. just make sure you have a stop on your bit so you dont punch the top of your hood when you break through. I also painted the bare metal with touchup paint and dipped the rivets in grease.

Redline Tuning, Took 15 year old Grandson less than an hour to install them. Best mod I have done to my truck yet. Can open the hood with one hand. Saves this 76 year old a lot of pain

    Tips:

Use a stepped bit to drill the holes and do not cheap out on the rivet gun or you will struggle to strongly secure them.

Thanks everyone! I see there is a 'Plus' and 'Elite' version. I can't tell what the main difference is, which do you have?

I’ve also been looking at this mod (red line)... haven’t pulled the trigger since I only open my hood maybe once per month, if that even. At $99 for the kit, and my expected 48 months of ownership before I trade/sell, it’ll cost me 2 bucks per event to have an easy open hood. It would be nice, but I’m afraid this mod doesn’t pass my practical test.

First mod I do to any vehicle I own (along with Weathertechs.) Redline is all I've used, but zero complaints.

Instead on mine, love them, when I was installing, the rivets were 3/16" steel. I ended up buying a pneumatic rivet gun to get them in, I could not get them in with my hand rivet gun.

Is there any other options for hood struts? I hate that you need to drill to be able to installed the struts.

It's really as simple as can be. Use a center punch and then a stepped drilled bit.

Some times there is holes on those area that serves no purpose that can be utilize for the struts.
