Try Spiker industry hood struts. They open up to 6” pass normal hood support rod hight giving more access.

@SpikerEng has a solid kit. You can set them up at any height from 0-6” taller than stock. I installed a while back. They’re awesome. They’ve been one of my favorite mods to date. Very simple and fun install. Check their thread out.

All these pictures of a hood open and a pair of struts. Really? How about ONE or TWO closeups of the actual mounting areas ??
Most Tacoma owners know what an open hood looks like ;-)

I bought the Redline tuning product. I love them. They are a great upgrade.

Regardless of the kit you buy and install. Remember to treat the holes you drill before putting the rivets into place. I uses self etching primer and a q-tip to apply. Then some paint overtop to seal. This will limit corrosion down the road.

The pictures are intended to show the difference in open hood heights between prop-rod height hood struts and Spiker high-lift hood struts. That difference is particularly helpful on the 3rd Gen Tacos whose hood opens about 6" lower than previous gens.

If you're interested in installation details, they are available on numerous threads here, or I can post pictures - what are you interested in seeing?

Definitely an option for those who don't want to drill.

    Compared to our kits though:

    Sokie
    Hood Height: Near stock
    Made in: Taiwan
    Warranty: 1 year

    Spiker
Hood Height: Up to 6" higher
    Made in: USA
    Warranty: 5 years

I'm glad I am not the only one that thinks in practical terms like that. I did the same analysis and just couldn't justify the price let alone the time to install not to mention the loss of the exercise my guns get lifting the hood.

This design also seems like a lot of stress on that pivot point. Consider how much more force is being placed on that strut mounting point, with such a short lever arm and all of that weight beyond the mounting point... No thanks.

That is a very valid point as well. The hood needs to be quite stiff to properly work with this setup. The Toyota hoods are fairly flimsy, and pulling down on the hood against the pressure point near the hinge creates quite the bending load in the hood. We considered this type of kit initially, but decided against it for that exact reason.

I guess I’ll return these and drill a bunch of holes in my fenders and hood and wait for the rust to start.

What's the difference between you drilling and properly treating a hole in your hood/fender and a hole put there by Toyota? If you take preventative measures, like deburring the hole, primer, paint, and rust prevention (fluid film or grease), you'll get the same results.

I appreciate not making holes if existing holes are located in satisfactory locations, but from my perspective, there aren't. However, I haven't seen anyone's hood fold as a result of the Sokie... so there's that too.

Most pictures just show an open hood. No reference at all to the differences in heights.

Where on your website does it say 5 year warranty? I can not find it.
