Bad batch statement seems to be holding true then.

I am supposed to pick mine up between the 14th and the 17th of this month. Hopefully with no hood problem.

Mine is greyish... From other things I've read in this thread I just though they paint the hood after the adhesive and maybe since my truck is mgm then that's why the adhesive is.

My Limited has the adhesive separation issue, but minimal vibration. Was kind of being lazy and waiting to see if they announce an official fix. Right now it seems to be left up to the dealers as to how to correct the issue.

From what I was told at stealership: (3) in the beginning of VIN is Mexico, (5) is Texas.. This is 3rd party evidence/hearsay as I haven't verified it yet..

Mine has the same problem. Seems surely to be the wrong adhesive. Mine is a light foam with very little strength. Yields with even the slightest pressure applied. Not even as strong as the expanding foam you get at the hardware store.

For now, I am waiting as well. I appreciate everyone getting it addressed now because they are the ones that will blaze the path for the fix.

Just picked mine up the other day, and sure enough it has broken adhesive as well. Minimal vibration thus far but I'll definitely be bring it in for repair. My adhesive looks pretty dark but then again the truck is MGM.

If you guys are not calling this problem in or opening incident numbers and instead are "waiting on others" to get it addressed, Toyota isn't gonna do shit.

I imagine this adhesion issue been addressed in the production line already a while ago and the necessary fix has been put in place on newer Tacomas.

If you guys are waiting on the sidelines for Toyota to do something, your pissing into the wind... As far as Toyota is concerned is a very isolated to a handful of Tacomas. If we want some sort of TSB or OEM Toyota fix people who have this issue will need to call them and let them know. Even dealers who are selling these trucks have no clue about this.

Last thing Toyota wants is to admit to something like this especially in the press when the GM twins are slaying the Tacoma in reviews, it doesn't bode well for sales, especially when people are on the edge of deciding between a Colorado and Tacoma and everyone is saying "the industry has caught up with Toyota quality"...

I got my truck back Friday. I am satisfied the dealership did their best effort to fix the problem. The used a different material for bonding but I was told "that's what Toyota told us to use". Even on this new application I can see where the bonding material itself is a little non-continuous. But, they applied it in many areas and did a clean job. The flexing is less than before.

FWIW, I had a loaner SR5 for a couple of days. I didn't drive it much since my motorcycle is my DD but, it had some hood flexing as well even though all of the bonds seemed intact. I mentioned this to the shop foreman and he said its just the way hoods are not with Toyota going with a thinner skin. He said the RAV4 hood has a lot of flex.

Same issue here. Just checked mine. Haven't noticed vibration but will take it out for a spin later and see. Will be calling Toyota tomorrow.

So I stop by my dealership today to finis up some paper work and then walked around the lot ant that two 2016s ,One AC OFF ROAD and DCSR5. So I popped both hoods and they were fine and instead of the white type stuff they have used it was Black and showed no sing of separation .The AC OFF ROAD was Blazing Blue and the DC SR5 was White . These trucks I was told just showed up and were not sold yet
My be Toyota got the word !!:fingerscrossed:

I maybe wrong but the adhesive is supposed to be the same colour as the truck. The black adhesive is probably the " good adhesive". That is the adhesive they used under my truck's hood and I don't have the hood vibration.

    just a thought:

If adhesive is being applied before paint, as others are stating, and if some of this "foam" is know to shrink in varying temps. is it probable that the reason for this separation is due to the order of the mfg process, not necessarily the adhesive itself

I.e., when the paint gets baked on, the adhesive is already on it, thus extreme temps, may cause it to shrink unexpectedly. Whereas, if they painted each one before applying adhesive the extreme temperature change wouldn't play a factor

That is probably what Toyota is doing now. Considering that the adhesive does not match the colour of the truck, they probably put the black adhesive after painting.

Just following up....after 3 attempts for the dealer's body shop to fix my hood, I noticed that the passenger side is fluttering a LOT...guess what, after three attempts they totally missed one of the connecting points, there was no adhesive there what so ever.

I'm not taking it back to them until there's a Toyota initiated fix, I did however, roll up a tiny piece of 3m double sided tape..problem solved. As for the foam they decided to use on their 3rd attempt, most spots it's letting go already or split right down the middle of the foam, so that's not going to last. I wouldn't have messed with this spot if it had any remnents of foam / glue there but it was totally missed by the factory and the dealership...once the rest of the foam lets go that the dealer put on, then maybe I'll take it back if Toyota hasn't figured out the correct adhesive to use for the fix by that point.

They must be using some shitty cheap ass adhesive. My 10 years old Subby has an adhesive that is painted in the body color that has not disintegrated.

Mine is loose too. The adhesive looks like fresh bubble gum. It's really sticky and looks like it wasn't cured properly.
