Same as the diy fix. Pretty sure someone at Toyota reads the forums. Little plastic hole plugs to plug up the ocarina.

If anyone has any details on this "Kit" that Toyota released to fix the hood, I would appreciate the info. Maybe it is listed on the repair receipt? I have a shitty lying piece-of-shit dealer, and unless I educate them and provide irrefutable evidence, nothing gets done.

Yeah, I know...."find another dealer". I'm more interested in information on the kit.

There is no TSB, honestly 2nd gens were constructed the same way as the 3rd gens.
But most 2nd gens had hood scoops built into the center of the hood so vibrations were not as noticeable. That with the longer hoods of the 3rd gen (for pedestrian impact zones from what I've read) just exacerbate the problem on 3rd gens.

This... At 2500 miles my hood is starting to flutter on the back driver's side. I popped the hood, and sure enough, two of the "glue dots" have separated. Can I fix it myself? Sure. But that doesn't hold Toyota accountable for poor design/manufacturing. When you pay $40k for a truck, these types of issues shouldn't be happening.

Another reason to take it in is if the hood fluttering causes an issue down the road like paint cracking or separation, there is now a paper trail showing there were previous issues.

Right. Take time off work to take it in and hear that it is normal, or some other bullshit. I need specific info on the kit before I go in so that I can hold their face to the fire and make them fix it.

Just dropped mine off at the dealership. I got a loaner taco... No auto climate, almost froze to death on the way in before I figured out I have to manually adjust AC dials like a peasant.

Anyways, doesn't sound like there's a kit. They're sending it to a bodyshop... Apparently to remove the hood fully from the supports, glue it properly and then repaint at least the underside of the hood (maybe the top of the hood, also. I didn't ask too much). 3 days quoted for timeline.

For what it's worth, the loaner has a little vibration at 15k miles, but nowhere near what mine had.

I have 8k miles on my DIY silicone fix. The silicone is still holding strong and fixed 90% of the problem, but there is still a slight flutter in windy or bumpy conditions. There isn't anything left to glue under my hood, so to fix this 100% and mitigate the remaining flutter would require some extra bracing structure underneath the hood skin.

10k miles on the truck and I'm loving it. This is the one and only thing that really bothers me about the truck. I'd still make the purchase all over again even with this "problem." I just wish Toyota would do something about it and restore some confidence in the "Q" part of their QDR.

My main issue with the way Toyota is handling this? I really really really do NOT want some ass hats at a Body Shop taking my hood and repainting it. Have already heard of some nightmare stories people having shit like this fixed and they end up with over-spray or a poor paint finish. Unfortunately I guess there is no way around it but if they could I'd rather they sent a Factory Painted hood to the dealer for replacement. Outsourcing to a body shop isn't my idea of a fool proof plan. You know?

For sure. Not only is it not worth fighting the dealer over, but I know I can do a better job than they can. DEFINITELY not worth a repainted hood.

Oh, and if you open a case with Toyota, be sure to let us all know the outcome. A lot of people still waiting on an official TSB from Toyota regarding this. It seems that quite a few dealers are fixing it for people, but its bodyshop work and not approved by Toyota.

If they outsource to body shop be on lookout for overspray

I've declined this whole body shop fix because, from what the dealers have told me, its not an official Toyota recommended fix. I'll wait for Toyota to do right by their product and provide a quality fix that warrants the $40k I paid for it.

I told them I'd prefer to not. If they want to send it to a shop I'm gonna request it be the place we use. I work for a Porsche dealership...
