Hood Vibrating

Curious how well this one's going to work..

 

You should be ok, the scooped hoods are stronger and dont flex as much as the non-scooped ones.

 

If you get your hoods replaced make sure they are replacing all your under hood stickers too. It is an easily overlooked item.

Also ask if they can paint the hood ahead of time and have you come by for install once it is ready. No reason to leave the truck for a week, unless they are blending the fenders for color match. I would rather live with the hood issue than have a shop start pulling apart my front end to blend my fenders. They can tint most colors for match.

 

I don't have a scoop.

 

After all these years I can't believe some still have this issue.

 

I haven't experienced this issue but when/if I do... I'll scuff the area with a scotch-brite pad and apply 3M 4200 (or perhaps perform a test with

$23 3M 5200 (06500) Permanent Bonding and Sealing for Boats and RVs Above and Below the Waterline Waterproof Repair, White, 10 fl oz Cartridge

3M 5200 because that shait does not come off even when you want it to.)

These are sold in caulk tubes or small toothpaste style tubes and are available on Amazon.

 

Your right! I saw the metal part in there and thought that was a scoop part.... guess your screwed like the rest of us

 

Make sure you use something that doesn't shrink when it dries and is sturdy but remains flexible. (You don't want dents where you bonded the hood and brace together) The 3M 4274 NVH is what most of us have used.

 

Wait this is a thing? I’ve been on this forum for a long time and never heard of this. The hoods on both my 2016 and and 2020 had a slight flutter in the hood at hiway speeds from day one. I’ve never noticed such a thing in any other automobile, but I still figured it was just a idiosyncrasy not worth worrying much about.

Do I assume correctly that a slight flutter is normal and that the people getting their hoods replaced had a great deal more flutter?

 

Yep, toyotas plan to use 2 layers of tinfoil for the hood instead of actual sheet metal make them flutter super bad. Going through car washes with blowers that blow down on the hood speeds up the glue failure.

 

No it's not sarcasm, we (some of us) have reduced ourselves with accepting mediocrity...why accept something not done right?!, I wouldn't!, the dealership network has gotten more and more greedy...that's the problem...in most places!, not to mention the factory quality itself has come down. I saw my hood flutter on highway, especially when a big rig heads in the opposite direction...I remember saying: what the...you know what...

 

I got curious and inspected my hood. There are few places where I would expect there to be adhesive where there is none. I don't know if it fell off or was never there. I suspect never since the hood has fluttered since day 1. The net result is that there is a gap between the brace and the top of the hood. I don't think it bothers me enough to spend time fixing it. I've got more exciting projects planned. Maybe if it gets worse I will reprioritize it.

 

When you do, pull the tailgate skin and hit the spots there. The same foam adhesive is used with the same failure rate.

 

if you add more sealant make sure to use the right stuff (3M NVH) or it can cause dents in your hood. you want a flexible material that can move.

 

Waste of time.

I fixed mine in 10 minutes with a caulk gun and some clear silicon.

 

My 2021 TRD OR hood was vibrating on the drive home from the dealer.

 

Have a 2020 Sport with adhesive separation - built June 2020. Hood has a slight flutter at highway speeds.

Probably will leave it alone as of now.
