Just went to pick up my truck "fixed" with a dented hood, man I was livid

Back to the body shop, do not let them use 24 hour bonding agent make them use 48 hour as it takes longer to set and won't be as agressive.

The body manager also stated that the hood is the only area on the vehicle that uses that type of adhesive.....lets all cross our fingers that he's correct

Talk about shoddy construction on trucks that are priced at a premium. They might as well should have had 5 year olds in a kindergarten class use Elmers glue to hold these hoods together.

Not to say that the previous gens aren't cursed to their fair share of issues, but body wise, I think they were built a little more "solidly" than this generation. Which isn't saying much either because the previous gens had some body issues as well.

The glue is holding anything together per say. It's purpose is keep the hood skin at a fixed distance from the stiffener (which is welded to the hood skin) with some dampening qualities.

Frankly, this is a f**king joke. Did Toyota outsource hood manufacturing to China?

it's just a bad batch of glue, when you get down to it, they'll replace the glue and go on with life, unfortunately there's probably 1000's of trucks already impacted and the fix requires actual craftmanship, whereas simply replacing a bolt on part is much less techincal....sucks either way but we decided to buy a 1st year production model you have to expect some issues to come up, doesn't matter how much the vehicle costs...it always happens.

If it's just a bad batch of adhesive, probably doesn't have much to do with being 1st year production model.

Per the Toyota body shop manager it's new for 2016, so unless he's totally full of shit (who knows) it is a first production year issue.

this is only used on the hood, no where else on the vehicle (also per that manager)

The spray foam idea is looking better and better to me. Just a few extra dabs here and there.

I'd rather do that them have my hood damaged and repainted honestly.

not a chance in hell I'd put that there.....the distance between the brace and the sheet metal is like 5mm at most, that would most certainly expand and cause bumps in the hood.

honestly it's under warranty, they are obligated to make it good as new, as irritating as it is, and I'm the one who they tried to give my truck back with a dent in it, they'll cut the adhesive off re-do it, let it cure properly and it will be better than when it was new. That area on the driver's side is not the only side that was missing adhesive, there were several spots on my hood...just my 2 cents

    I had this concern.
I rescheduled my repair for Monday, but talked to the body shop guys yesterday.
They couldn't say whether the fix would be permanent.o_O

This looks like the appropriate repair product.

my standpoint is....if you mess with it, and screw it up, you've REALLY screwed up as they're not going to warranty anything after you mess with it.

If they screw it up, they have to fix it....I totally would be interested in a DIY fix if my vehicle was out of warranty, but while under warranty I just won't be messing with it.

As of now my hood is 9
    True.

I just never had luck getting my vehicles fixed by the dealer. They always mess up something else.

I'm going to have to face this issue at some point I guess. Just the last thing I want is to end up with my hood repainted. Then I take the hit on resale not them.

yep I hear ya, I would not want a repaint either, I would want them to send me a new factory painted hood......"want" lol, they would probably not oblige that request.

Just make sure you don't end up with tape lines and over spray on your truck.

When you get it back it should look like the day you picked it up.
