    Thanks to TW's checklist, when taking delivery of my truck I noticed the ribs under the hood are flexing due to bad joint adhesive at the factory. My sales guys got me in touch with their body shop manger. Manger was very detailed as he explained the fix. They removed all the little plastic and rubber bumpers along with all the stickers. Removed and re-applied the adhesive and re-painted the underside of the entire hood. I'm pleased with their job. Before and after pics;

    You let somebody paint your brand new truck and it wasn't even in an accident? Yikes! IF I went this route (an unofficial repair) for this factory flaw I'd certainly tell them to hold the paint.

    Body shop manager told me that this is his third repair of same issue, and Toyota Corp was informed of warranty work. I made sure to get copies of all the paperwork, just in case.

    Dealer outsources to body shop = not the official toyota fix. Well really there is no official toyota fix for this problem yet. So if the dealer outsources to the body shop, they screw up and overspray, you're going to have a hell of a legal battle with the dealer and a brand new truck that now appears it's been in an accident. Wonder what the fine print says when signed for this procedure. Glad yours worked out for you but I'd advise others to proceed at their own risk for pursuing this as a resolution. Literally you might be better off just doing the adhesive application yourself to mitigate risk of some bodyshop SNAFU. However at a minimum I'd call corporate and raise hell for an official fix to be issued. Why they're taking so long to address this is beyond me. Probably because people are taking the problem into their own hands. Obviously it is each individual's prerogative as to how they decide to handle it. Would just be ideal to see Corporate nut up, and take care of the consumer of a $35K-$40k+ truck.

    Smitty, what do you believe would be an official Toyota fix, if using the dealership's body shop isn't it?

    I concur with everything you have said. Toyota quality has gone down considerably over the years. This is my 6th Toyota vehicle in 20 years. I don't remember any finish issues with any of them. I'm happy with my truck though. I guess these things are considered normal these days unfortunately.

    A TSB is Corporate's approved /engineering board approved field fix. This problem is not acknowledged at that level yet.

    So then am I understanding that you're under the impression that any work approved under warranty that doesn't have a TSB is not an "official" fix and is subject to some different set of rules/standards, should it not be done right?

    Given the highly complex nature of glue and your astoundingly insightful knowledge of mechanically complex issues like thermostats and dirty leaf spring pads that squeak, what sort of engineering board approved fix would differ from removing, cleaning, reapplying glue and repainting the underside of a hood?

    I complained twice to the dealer about my flexing hood . They sent me to a outside body shop. I went back to the body shop a second time and it still was not fixed . You are correct in that they made me take it into my own hands . I fixed it myself with liquid nails and a can of paint I had mixed up to match the Sky Silver . The reason I did it is I did not want a new hood that the paint did not match . I do not care if I got 10 new hoods, if none of them exactly matched the paint on my truck it would bother me forever .To me , $20 for the materials was worth it. It no longer flexes at all . My feelings are make sure and get everything documented , but pick your battles .

    See post #9 and for such a widespread issue a TSB should be issued. The fact that the dealer has to Outsource this is the issue

    In my case it is Toyota's body shop, not an outsourced one.

    I wonder if post 10 guy would still be here if he could have fixed his rear diff himself for $20 a year ago .

    Third party as Toyota Corporate does not own their own body shop. Unless you sent your hood back to the factory line and they painted it there....?

    In the end I'm happy with the repair and will cross other bridges if I have too. Thanks for the input.
