Horn not working!!!!

Hi folks, Thanks for this thread and all the clockspring info.
Turns out I need a clockspring and I'm debating whether to buy the OEM one or not.
Anyone have the OEM one go out after a year?

 

Put mine in (OEM) Spring 2019, still good.

I am having the job horn not working issue in my 2013. Horn works with the arming and disarming of the alarm But does not work on the steering wheel. I’m guessing it’s a spiral cable issue. Found a cheap one on eBay to try out. Should be here in the next week or two. Once I install it I’ll give an update and the link to the part.

 

I just put one in my 2012, it wasn't too hard to do. T30 torx, 19mm socket, phillips#2, jeweler's flat screwdriver for the fiddly clips. Watched a few you tubes that helped also.
One tip that I never saw mentioned: the horn wire spade connector on mine had a locking tab it took a minute to figure out. It didn't just pull off like most plain spade connectors so don't force it. If you get a small screwdriver or pick you will see how it works. sorry I don't have a pic.

Once I got it working, my single horn was very anemic and rusty. I went down to O'reillys and got this cheap set of 2, I was pleasantly surprised at the tone and volume for $25.

I guess no need to read the whopping 6 pages on this. I just replaced the mini 10A fuse for horn that was under the hood. The one I took out looked fine, but I'm glad I decided to put a different one in there anyway. Now, I need to get some replacement mini fuses to keep in the truck.

Edit: was the clock spring.

 

Having the horn issue. Dealership is saying it needs a new steering wheel assembly and costs over $800 for the part. I mentioned the spiral spring and they said that was not the issue. Seems like that’s always the issue on the forums. Are they scamming?

 

Try turning your wheel to the left or the right and see if the horn works. Mine worked when I turned the wheel to the left.

If it works when turned, its the clock spring.

 

To update my own post...the wheel must have been turned to the left when I tested. The fuse was not the issue.

On the bright side, I do have more spare fuses that are in a package that has never been opened.

Dealership says it’s the horn switch itself in the steering wheel, can’t believe a switch of any kind could cost $600 before labor. I ordered a button switch on Amazon from $13. Plugged it into the horns and got it installed myself in about 30 mins.

 

I'm confused...the horn switch? That sounds like blinker fluid.... The horn is activated by metal in the steering wheel making contact with another piece of metal when you press the center of the steering wheel. There's no "switch" in there that I recall seeing.

My guess is still your clock spring. Did you try turning the wheel to the left or right to see if it would work?

 

Thanks to this thread, figured out my horn not working. My horn didn’t work centered but would work intermittently when turned. The clock spring was changed and it’s working again.
