I have an 07 DCSB 4x4, I filled up today when the low fuel light came on:
    Gallons to Full: 17.63
Miles since last fill up: 279.8
    MPG= 15.87

I take alot of short trips and its not uncommon for me to take it to 3k rpms or better taking off. On a side note, my truck has 47,000 miles and just has loosened up and started getting better milage, i used to get 12-14 pretty consistantly, but now i typically get 16-17 doing my daily driving. It will get 20-21 on the interstate doing 75 or so.

One last thing, I use 89 octane gas. I have checked my mpg using 87 and i get around 14 with it. on 89 I get 16-17, and on 93 I get about 15.

Just filled up today. Got 19.3 mpg on 91 octane with chunky tires. Summer gas is here for sure.

That is sucky mileage. I had a 5.4 V8 that got me 15 every day. I'd hate this taco if I was getting worse than that.

If you're getting < 13, then why not just drive it like you stole it! See if you can hit some single digits. At least it'll be fun trying.

I think he was being sarcastic about it being broken in already haha. It should get better over the next few thousand miles - I'm not sure how much though

12 MPG sucks! I think thats a little low for a break in period... I remember getting around 15-17 then 18-20. I put some heavier and larger tires and I maintain around 17-18 no matter what type of driving I do.

Tank 2 = 15.5mpg, hit 3k rpms more often, also spent more time driving hills & stop and go.

Tank 3, just tanked up today...

Cannot figure out how some people get 19-20mpg.

Got 22.34 on my last tank, some 4x4 use, and going up steep grades on occasion. The secret? Find a station in your area that sells non-ethanol gas, and I have always used the 91 octane. Keep filling up with it until all that 10% eth crap is out of your tank....and use the same octane so your ECU's timing stays the same.

I have experimented with both ethanol and non ethanol gas, and get the same results every time. About a 3-4 MPG drop using the 10% ethanol gas....hurry and get it while you can, 3/5 stations here sold regular gas a few months ago, now only one does:cool: When I go on road trips I even use PUREGAS.org to find stations on the way the sell regular gas, its well worth it to find them.

You can clear or reset the computer, ie disconnect the battery for 1/2 hr or so, and then re connect the battery and drive normal and see if it re learns your driving habits. This may help, but as most pointed out, stop and go traffic like LA is not going to help you get good mileage.
Try to drive like you have a egg between the pedal and your foot, this always helps...:D

This is good advice if you want mileage. Sometimes you have to "floor it" to get up to speed and into the flow of traffic but if you have plenty of time a slow steady increase in rpms is always better mileage-wise.

I've been using my truck all winter mostly to haul trailer loads of tree limbs and logs out to the county burn pile a few times a week with a bi-weekly trip to the grocery store (20-40 mile round trips). I'm leery of pulling that trailer over 55 and live in a rural area where I have plenty of time to get up to speed out on the highway so my rpms never go much above 1500. I can't say what mileage I'm getting since I didn't set the trip meter but I haven't filled up with gas since early winter. I have to be pushing 400 miles on that tank.

Edit: Speaking of stepping on things between your foot and the pedal, a college housemate of mine once thought he'd take his pet ferret for a ride and several of us hopped into his car to go to the A&W. He pulled into the drive-in at about 20 mph and proceeded to drive right out the other end. When I asked him what the heck was going on he said "The ferret is under the brake pedal!"

As others have mentioned, buy a ScanGauge or UltraGauge to monitor your approx instant MPG...this is drastically help you learn the sweet spots, how to accelerate, feathering the pedal, etc. Plus, with only 450 miles, it the engine should continue to loosen up, again as others have mentioned. Click on my Fuelly link in my sig and look at my mileage history to see how I've done with MPG over past 15 or so months
