cool thanks for the pics, after seeing how well the under side of the body withstands from rust I probably would only coat the frame so that if any lines or anything had to be worked on it wouldn't be covered with that oily stuff.

Forsure, the coated lines is from the factory first coating. This stuff shouldnt be used on any rubber stuff, I think it swells it. The frame and cross members are a good example of the finish texture.

    Cool, good luck man!

Well bedliner is not rubberized..I know that for sure..I'm thinking its somesort of epoxy mixture. Once you lay that stuff down, theres no getting it off. The rubberized undercoating is a different story. Even after its applied it remains soft and not as durable as bedliner material.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was not referring your post about bed-liner. I was merely sharing my experience about the rubberized undercoating products.

As far as saving a frame... I think a competent body shop or a very good auto restoration company would be the best source of knowledge and information.

Man that's nasty. You need Por 15 to fix that. Then you only have to scrape the loose flaking rust. etch it and apply Por 15 two coats. Never rust again.

    http://www.por15canada.com/can/directions.htm

You are probably correct. They sprayed the undercoat over a wet truck to hide the rust. It just made it worse. I don't see much undercoat left.

Glad that is not my truck. I feel blessed. 2007 and of course they use everything here on the roads too in the winter because it's brutal mountains roads. No rust yet. I've been proactive with it though.

Call me crazy but I don't worry about that too much....I had a 97 Taco for 7 years.....Salt Lake City in the Winter (what ya think they use on the roads out there) and a ton of Outer Banks NC beach driving in the summer. The whole bottom made yours look new....lol. I spray off the bottom every time I wash and do the same with my 05' but don't think anything will rust off...maybe after like 20 years, like I said....call me crazy.

i have a thread going as well, i went to the dealer and this is what i was told

"all the 05 and up trucks are coming in like this, and toyota is not doing anything about it" so i guess, they are treating this as a normal thing.

if you havent done anything to your truck like undercoat it or anything, DO IT

Thats just normal surface rust. You can sand it off and hit up with some paint and be good to go.

I agree. I wouldn't panic just yet. This seems to vary from car to car, but it's certainly not uncommon to see surface rust like this on chassis. My first Land Rover looked like this. Ten years later, it's still in service solid as ever (and leaving oil puddles on somebody else's driveway, not mine).

To echo what others have said: POR15 and/or Rustoleum primer and paint are your friend. Your truck is rusty, but can easily be saved at this point. Attack that rust now.

A reminder to all who live in road salt country: DO NOT PARK YOUR TRUCK IN A HEATED GARAGE DURING WINTER. The salt won't damage your truck when it's zero degrees outside, but in that garage at 50 degrees and in the presence of moisture, it's corrosion time. If you're worried about cold starts and engine wear, get a block and oil pan heater.

My 06DC is about the same the rear leaf hangers are the worse part. Called toyota and told them, they scheduled a frame inspection and seemed to be concerned about it. Plus it has a 5 year warranty. See what happens. Sorry just thought I would let you know your not the only one.

Good info. I didn't think of that. I did get an oil pan heater that I use under 40F, stops the loud ticking on start up so I figure it's mo betta 4 the motor.
