How can I disable the seat belt alarm?

New SR5, so of course the seat belt alarm beeps to tell me to buckle up.

I'm an avid buckler, when I need to. 20 years ago I survived a major wreck because I was belted.

But the vast majority of my driving is at 10 to mph or so. I'll have to explain. I have lived at a meditation retreat place in NH for almost 50 years, and it's at the end of a dirt road with not much traffic. I help out with the buildings and grounds, and various other tasks to keep the place running. And there is a small private K-8 school here, too. Anyway, things are spread out enough here to make it sensible to drive from one place to another, and I simply don't bother with the seat belt. I do go out to town on errands maybe once a week, and I never fail to buckle up as soon as I leave the place and go down the road.

In my previous '02 SR5 I figured out how to disarm it at the switch on the door post. But I just don't have any idea where to look on this new one. Is there maybe a fuse somewhere, or something I can unplug? Anyone know?

AdrenaliNate, a member here, makes and sells chime silencers that plug into the seatbelt.

I went to my dealership and they disabled it for free for me. Always wear a seatbelt unless I’m moving wood around my property because I’m in and out so much

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Buckle the seatbelt, then get in.

There is thread about this, the buzzer is in the gauge cluster, he de-solder the buzzer or remove it entirely.

Like I said, I rarely drive other than on the grounds of the retreat, with almost no other traffic. 10mph or so.

But as soon as I leave to go out on the town road, the belt goes on. You may still disagree, that's ok.

As I said, I survived a wreck because I had it on

    wreck.jpg

Black ice late at night on the interstate, 70mph, went through the guard rail, flipped and rolled down the embankment, came to a stop just short of the trees, upside down, got out of the belt and wiggled through what was left of the door window, walked back up to thumb a ride. Very elated grateful.

And that was the only other Tacoma I bought new. Nice truck!

Use the techstream carista method or dealer. That way the srs system is activated correctly on case you forget some day. You also get the light on the dash to remind you still.

I believe in seat belts but working in a field or on the beach I don't want one on, or that stupid sound going off.

The only part of the story that I could laugh at was when the insurance adjuster went to see the wreckage. I told him don't bother, there was nothing to see but an obvious total. He said that's all right, it was part of his job to work up an actual repair estimate first, then compare with book value, to decide what to base the payout on. I said, "WHAT???!!! You're gonna look up the price of all the parts, and estimate the hours, as if you might REBUILD it???"
    "Yes, sir.:'

So it turned out he figured rebuilding it cost about $3,000 more than totaling it. So they wrote me a check for the book value.

Amazing, that's all I can say.

And back to the thread -- I'll go to the dealer next week.
