I'm about to start an internship at a company called International Paper. They are a paper mill and the plant smells AWFUL. I can get over smelling it all day and even smelling like it, but 3 months of my truck sitting in that lot is going to have it SMELLY. Does anyone know how I can prevent the smell from entering the truck? Also I'm pretty sure lime falls on the vehicles and hurts the paint over time. I heard they give you a spray for your paint and offer car washes but I haven't asked.

Does anyone know how to prevent the stench from ruining my interior? Thanks

    Edit:
    My conclusion:

I'm not going to use a car cover, but I am going to do these following things:

Dryer sheets and ice packs under seats
    Cheap seat covers
    Carbon air filter
    Ozium when needed
Use the factory car wash daily (unless I find something detrimental with it)
    Park upwind
    HeatShield sun visors all around
    Wax the truck frequently
    A/C on circulate

I am also working on a solar powered fan to keep the air circulating in the cab.

Thanks everyone for all the help! I've had a ton of advice from everyone here. +reps all around.

You can try damp rid in the cab. It's a moisture absorbent that I use to dry out humidity in vehicles but you can try it.

Also, I'd would become aware of the winds and park upwind of the place every day. Even if it is a different place every day

Oh yes, I know what that is like. Used to work in Berlin, NH, a town built around the Frasier Paper mill. That smell is brutal! I have no idea what to tell you other than maybe buy a cheap motorcycle or car for three months! Or park a long ways away and ride a bicycle!

In my experience there is no way to prevent smells but Febreze does a great job of removing them. Before i quite smoking I used to smoke in my vehicles and no one could ever tell.

    That's a great idea!

Does your vehicle retain any permanent damage after your job? If the smell went away, how long did it take? And yeah I've thought of the bike thing I need a bed cover first though

    Might be my last resort.

You will get used to it. It will be really difficult to try and prevent the smell from getting into your truck. My family used to live near a mill close to Texarkana and everything/everywhere smelled horrid. Good luck.

Get a cheap seat cover, put plastic between your seat and the seat cover. This will prevent the smell/chemicals that are on you from being rubbed into the seat everytime you get in. At the end of the job, throw the seat cover away. This will help in smell reduction.

This is probably overkill, but I'd buy a shitty extremely cheap beater car to drive to work everyday, especially if the paint harm is true

Cause removing the smell won't be too difficult, but "preventing" it when the truck is gonna be there everyday is a whole other story.

You mean buy and throw away ever 30 days?

Carpooling is an option but I'll also be going to the gym nearby every day

I can take the smell personally, I'm more worried about the damage to my truck and others riding in it. For example, taking out my girlfriend in a rancid vehicle that ruins your appetite!

If I don't do that, would the seats be permanently damaged?

I've already budgeted everything  I would normally consider that but not really an option for just the summer. Plus I'd have to convince my parents to let me park that beater in their yard.

Would it be possible to just deal with it all summer then just pay someone to professionally detail it to return it to "normal"?

Buy one fridge pack for under each seat, i replace them when they get hard and no longer work (30-90 days). If you want them to work continuously, replace them every 30 days. They should only be $0.80 to $1 A piece at your local walmart or convenient store.

I do detailing and i have removed smells for people so in theory.....you could have a guy do that but finding someone who knows what they are doing seems to be difficult these days

As mentioned above, arm and hammer packs under the seat and also turn your A/C on recirc before you park. It won't be air tight but might help a little bit.

I don't know if it will do permanent damage, but every time you sit in your seat you will be rubbing the chemicals and your sweet into your seat. That stuff gets in deep and is hard to get out. A seat cover will help and the plastic between them will make another layer of protection.

It's always one recirc :p If the AC is the only way the smell gets in... Can't I find a way to seal them and unseal them quickly?

Good idea... Time to go buy some seat covers I guess...
