Was going to ask here but just did my research on carbon filters. Thanks! I'll buy one soon.

Question: people here say to remove the secondary charcoal filter in first and second gens. I was planning to do that but do I need to keep that in if my truck will be around lime and other gases?

^Nope. That intake charcoal filter is to keep unburned fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. The engine doesn't need protection from outside gases.

When I knew I'd be working with a bunch of smelly hippies I bought some seat covers from Wal-Mart last minute. My plan seemed to have worked, and the only stench I can complain about is when I have the AC off, the fan on, and internal air circulating. I've no idea why, but with that combo, the cab begins to smell like a stale whore house. From what I've read, the first gens don't have an internal carbon filter, so I've no idea how to quench the stench.

I will probably get new seat covers, buy the ice packs, a carbon filter, (Time to change anyway) and keep a can of ozium handy.

As for your filter, sounds like you have a mod to invent!

I'll look into that when I get time tomorrow, thanks

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream :p

TMG is Toyota's actual racing division, responsible for the 1000-hp TS040 hybrid race cars at Le Mans and previously the Toyota-Panasonic Formula One cars.

That explains it. Well, cool! Do you just have the sticker or do they develop parts for trucks like TRD and URD?

Anyone know where the first gens pull air from when the internal circulation setting is engaged?

I haven't the slightest clue but I bet if you made a thread (after searching so you don't get barked at) there are many who have knowledge on that subject.

Not sure about the smell, but an enzyme based interior cleaner might help. As for the paint I would for sure buy a quality car cover and cover it every day when you are there!

That smell is more than likely mold and bacteria built up on your ac compressor and air circulation system. I would try with some sort of ac evap cleaner. Sprays into the cowl will only cover it.

I used to live in a mill town, that smell would get in your wallet and money, your cigarettes and everything else. They used to call it the smell of money. Every once in a while they would shoot acid type rain out of the stacks because of cheap coal they were buying. It literally ate the paint on your truck like sulphuric acid Eventually they put scrubbers on the stacks which helped but the bottom line is that at anytime living near a papermill could be hazardous to your trucks paint health.

I worked for International Paper for a few years, my advice is park up wind, (look at the stacks) a couple of fabric softener sheets (for clothes dryer) under the seats work miracles. Odor is way worse on damp, humid days. As far as your paint goes, parking up wind will help with that also. The mill I was at had a free drive through car wash, I just made a pass through on my way out every afternoon.

Enzyme based? Is anything advertised as using that? And though I've never liked the idea of covering my truck (scratches, hassle, heat, etc) I may have to.

Doesn't a cover reduce any hope you have of keeping your truck cool? (Blocking reflectors)

I haven't checked yet to see if they have a wash but I will. And won't the wind direction change throughout the day?

The wind may change but it depends on the bigger picture of weather. Any fronts moving through, or other weather systems, terrain, oceans... All these and more influence wind direction and intensity.

Historical wind direction is a determining factor when planning airports, therefore wind direction and data is out there. http://windhistory.com/about.html
